Purcell's composition inspired by Spencer's religious epic poem 'The Fairee Queene' arranged for piano and voice.

Commissioned by Gareth Malone for Series Four of BBC TV's 'The Choir' and first performed by Malone and the Military Wives' choir as part of The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on 12th November 2011 in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen. A favourite for the 2011 Christmas Number One, with support from radio DJ Chris Evans who has suggested every choir in the country should sing this song, it's and nbsp - the biggest threat to X-Factor chart domination this year. The text is taken from poems, letters and prayers written by the Military Wives, selected and adapted by Paul Mealor, and a passage from the Book of John: Wherever you are, my love will keep you safe - My heart will build a bridge of light, across both time and space. Malcolm Williamson (1931-2003) was an Australian composer who moved to Britain in 1950 and spent the rest of his life there. He was appointed Master of the Queen’s Music in 1975 a title he held until his death and was reputedly the most commissioned composer of his generation. The song cycle Celebration Of Divine Love was written in 1963 making it one of the composer’s earliest vocal works. It is scored for High Voice with Piano accompaniment and dedicated to Barbara Elsy. The text was written by James McAuley an Australian poet who Williamson often drew inspiration from.

This work was commissioned by the Hanover Girls’ Choir in 2014 a year marking not only the centenary of the Great War (1914–1918) but also the 300th anniversary of the Hanoverian Succession to the throne of England upon the death of Queen Anne in 1714. While the latter circumstance prompted a desire for a work reflecting upon friendship and unity faint but abiding resonances of the former suggested that the theme might be viewed in more universal terms especially since the music was commissioned with a view to collaborative harmony between distinguished German and English performers. It was with this in mind that Charles Bennett provided his libretto which goingyet further afield listens to the still small voice of peace and humanity as it insistently reaches us from the oppressed of any time and place.
