Celedonio Romero (1913 - 1996) was a classical guitarist and composer. Born in Cuba to Spanish parents, he studied music at Malaga and Madrid, but never had any formal Guitar lessons. Having became well known within Spain, he was refused permission to perform outside the country by Franco's government. In 1957, he moved to the United States, and founded the distinguished Guitar quartet Los Romeros with his three sons. Romero wrote over 100 compositions for Guitar. His ever-popular Gavota (Gavotte) was first published in 1980, but was probably written much earlier.

The Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909) was one of the leading members of the Nationalist school that dominated Spanish music at the turn of the last century. Cordoba was the fourth in a collection of 5 songs for the Piano inspired by different places in Spain, published in 1898 as Cantos de Espana (Op. 232). The city of Cordoba is said to be Albeniz' favourite city, and is home to the famous Great Mosque. The music reflects the rich history of the city, both Christian and Moorish. Cordoba has been transcribed for Guitar by Miguel Angel. It has become one of the staples of the modern Guitar repertoire.
