Tiefe Stimme / Low Voice. Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. Continuing the new Urtext edition of Schubert’s Lieder, editor Walther Dürr now presents Volume 6, for Low Voice. While volumes 1 to 4 of this series contain mostly Lieder that Schubert had published during his lifetime, volume 5ff. contain the remaining songs which are presented basically chronologically in the order of their Deutsch catalogue number. The Lieder in this sixth volume were composed during the period between autumn 1814 and spring 1815. With “Nachtgesang” (D 119) and “Trost in Tränen” (D120) Schubert turns to the“Strophenlied” in its stricter sense for the first time. He develops an interest in this form parallel to his first involvement with Geothe. Schubert, during this period an assistant teacher at his father’s school, orientated himself towards the so-called “Berliner Liederschule”, particularly the songs of Johann Friedrich Reichardt. Attila, Verdi's ninth opera and the second of five that he composed for Venice's Teatro La Fenice, had its premiere on 17 March 1846. Verdi was inspired to compose an opera on the subject of Attila by two rather unusual sources, Attila, König der Hunnen, a curious play by a now-forgotten German playwright, Friedrich Ludwig Zacharias Werner, and Madame de Staël's discussion of it in her magisterial work on Germany, De l'Allemagne. This present reduction is based on the critical edition of the full score that - published in 2012 - is the first complete published version of the full orchestral score and the product of the study of numerous manuscript sources: the autograph sources (now kept at the British Library in London, at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. and at the 'Museo del Teatro alla Scala? in Milan), manuscript sources (those kept at Teatro La Fenice in Venice and at Teatro San Carlo in Naple) and the first piano vocal scores. / Voix Et Piano

Par MASSENET JULES. Cendrillon (Cinderella), with a libretto by Henri Cain based on Perrault's fairytale, premiered in 1899 in Paris. Best known for composing over thirty operas, the composer, Jules Massenet (1842-1912) purposely did not attend the premiere, but received a telegram the following day from baritone Fugère recording its triumph. Incorporating the composer's sense of humour and wit, the use of recurrent motifs is subtle and often thought to be inspired by Richard Wagner. Cendrillon contains musical echoes of the 18th century, incorporating gallant music, the use of the Lute and Viola D'Amore and a series of Balletentrees. The Opera is in four acts with 19 characters and a chorus. The role of Prince Charming is a breeches role whilst the melody lines of the Fairy Godmother are characterised by trills and arpeggios. Jeanne Luquet-Réal écrira tout spécialement Il était une fois sur lequel elle appose quelques mots : à mon ami Germain Desbonnet, plus qu'un poème- une évocation- (au rayonnant bonheur de Germain et Elisa, récemment unis). Suivra très rapidement La rose du même auteur, qui présentera aussi à Germain Desbonnet quelques écrits de sa vieille amie Juliette-John Charrière (Apprends, Prière, Ce tableau).
