Etude IV. from 12 Etudes in All the Minor Keys. Arranged for saxophone quartet by Matt Evans.
Matt Evans is a saxophonist in the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” He is a founding member of the Zzyzx Quartet, Project Fusion and the Eastman Saxophone Project (ESP), and is a laureate of the Fischoff, Plowman, Coleman, J.C. Arriaga, and MTNA competitions.
One of the most pleasant surprises I’ve had in my composing life was my accidental discovery of the Zzyzx Quartet’s arrangement of this etude. If asked, I would have never thought that my piece could be adapted to the medium of the sax quartet! But Matt Evans’ ingenuity as an arranger, coupled with a genuinely masterful performance which managed to capture the true spirit of the work, convinced me completely. I am so happy to have a small part in contributing to the sax quartet literature! - Marc-Andre Hamelin

He gradually began to establish his own style, combining the enormous range of possibilities of contemporary music and classical music and, in the years that followed, he won six first prizes at various national and international composition competitions.
