'Zais' a été le premier opéra de Rameau qui a été entièrement consacrée à 'la féerie,' le monde enchanté du mythe du Moyen-Orient avec les esprits et les créatures fantastiques. Déjà commencé pendant les premières révisions et des répétitions s'est poursuivie jusqu'à la première représentation. Le compositeur et le librettiste Cahusac l'a finalement utilisé la période de Pâques en 1748 pour travailler sur ces révisions, ainsi que des changements structurels et de comédies musicales substitutions, Ces inclus quelques ajouts vocale et instrumentale des mouvements substantiels. Quelle était la version réalisée après Pâques est plus convaincant, à la fois musicalement et dramatiquement.En revanche, les réveils de 1761 et 1769 - le premier après la mort de Cahusac, le deuxième après Rameau - contenait des réductions drastiques y compris le prologue entier.Pour le nouveau volume de la 'Complete Works Rameau' version à partir de Pâques 1748 a été choisie comme la source primaire. Bach composed his oratorio for the Feast of the Ascension in Leipzig in 1735. Though this work has the duration of a cantata, the choice of text places it among the oratorios.
