Judith Weir: My Piano Quartet (2000) is part of an extended series of works for piano and strings which I have written over the last twenty years - although I didn¹t know it was going to be a series when I wrote the first of these works Music for 247 Strings in 1980. During this period it has been far more usual for composers to write for mixed wind and string ensembles. Le quatuor op. 15 connut déjà un grand succès du vivant de Fauré, en 1880, l'année de la première audition en publique, le Ménestrel écrit: ' ...un quatuor pour piano ...qui se fait remarquer par une grande distinction d'idées et une facture franchement moderne'. La revue et gazette musicale de Paris:' ... une oeuvre de valeur...'. Le quatuor op. 45, probablement conçu en 1885, fut achevé en 1886 ou au début de l'année 1887, et parut vraisemblablement fin 1887 ou début janvier 1888: Fauré offrit un exemplaire à Tchaïkovski. Malgré ses valeurs intrinsèques op. 45 ne supplanta pas op. 15 et ne fut très connu qu'au cours du XXième siècle. / Musique De Chambre
