Piano reduction in E major and E flat major with parts in E/E flat C and B flatHummel's Trumpet Concerto is still one of the most popular concertos for this instrument. He composed it in 1803 for the Viennese courttrumpeter Anton Waidinger whose newly developed key-trumpet enabled him to play in a much more virtuoso manner than on the traditional natural trumpet. Henle's Urtext edition reproduces the work in the original key of E majorwith solo parts in E and for the more common trumpet in C. Due to the fact that the concerto is nowadays often performed in E flat major this edition also contains a piano reduction in E flat major for trumpets in E flat and Bflat. The different transpositions are now available in one single edition for the first time.

Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) was a prolific Czech composer writing many large scale works. The composer moved to Paris in 1923 where he began experimenting in a variety of composition styles. Sonatine for Trumpet and Piano was composed in 1957 and is adaptable to both the B flat and C Trumpet. Martinu himself was a violinist but he liked to experiment and the mid-1950s saw him move to Nice in France where he began writing Sonatas for wind and brass. Sonatine for Trumpet exemplifies the composer's influence of Stravinsky Debussy and jazz music. The piece is excitingly virtuosic in its use of flutter tonguing complex rhythms chromaticism and ensemble between the Trumpet and Piano. As a varied substantial work for the Trumpet repertoire Martinu's Sonatine is essential to the advanced trumpeter.

Trumpet parts in both B flat and E flat simplified piano part and a free CD including piano backing tracks and orchestral performance extracts.Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) composed this concerto in 1803 for the keyed trumpet which had been developed by Anton Weidinger (1767-1852). Weidinger gave its first performance on New Year's Day 1804. Originally composed in the key of E it is more commonly played in Eb. The keyed trumpet was the first type of trumpet which could play chromatically but the invention was not a huge success: it suffered from a poor quality of sound. In the early 19th century the invention of the valve rendered the keyed trumpetobsolete.This edition is intended to be more user-friendly than the others currently available: there is a much easier (and dare I say more stylistic) piano accompaniment - any doubling of the solo part has been removed voicing simplified and my premise has been to imagine what it might have been before it was orchestrated rather than trying to cram in every last piece of orchestral detail.Suggested cuts in the piano part have been indicated giving a short introduction to each movement perfect for auditions recitals or exams. However the bar numbers still tally with the longer original versions which are included should they be required. The dynamics and articulation which I have added incorporate the weight of opinion in current editions and recordings offering more guidance than 'scholarly' editions without being overprescriptive.There is an appendix with suggested interpretation of trills and ornaments. Listening to as many different recordings as possible is the best way to assimilate good trills.The accompanying CD provides piano accompaniments and observes the suggested cuts. Eugène Bozza's Caprice is an exciting addition to the trumpeter's repertoire. Exploiting the instrument's potential to its full capacity Caprice is ideal performance repertoire. Born in Nice Bozza (1905-1991) went on to study at the Paris Conservatoire winning prizes for the violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. His capability clearly comes across in his Caprice for Trumpet and Piano through thrilling semiquaver flourishes and energetic scalic descents beautifully contrasted by expressive lento passages. Bozza'sCaprice is essential to all advanced trumpeter's repertoire.

Elgar Howarth’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra has been arranged for Trumpet with Piano accompaniment by Martin Harvey. The new Piano reduction cleverly compensates for the extendedpassages of untuned percussion in the original accompaniment adding yet another dimension to this exciting and volatile work. Elgar Howarth (b. 1935) is one of the foremost Brass musicians in Britain today; highlyregarded as a performer conductor composer and teacher. He was born into the northern Brass Band heritage and studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music (now the RNCM). He played the Trumpet at the Royal Opera House andthe Royal Philharmonic Orchestra while also conducting and composing for several Brass Bands most notably the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. He has since written extensively for solo Brass instruments and continues to teach theTrumpet at the Royal Academy of Music.

George Antheil's Sonata For Trumpet is an exciting work which really exploits the sonority of the instrument and is accompanied by Piano. This piece will provide an enjoyable challenge for the advancing trumpeter.The solo trumpet part is also included on a separate insert.

Armenian composer and pianist Alexandre Aroutiounian (1920-2012) was awarded many prizes for his compositions throughout his career. His Aria and Scherzo for Trumpet and Piano is little-known yet it is a sublime addition to the modern repertoire. Aroutiounian's works have been performed all over the world and he is particularly remembered for his Trumpet Concerto. Melodic and rhythmic characteristics of Armenian music are prominent in Aroutiounian's works further expressing his nationality by use of ashughner (folk minstrel) improvisations. Aria and Scherzo is made up of twomovements the Aria marked as adagio and the Scherzo as allegretto. Tonality is exploited throughout and contains unique uses of rhythm and ensemble. Aroutiounian's Aria and Scherzo is an exciting piece for all advanced trumpeters.

Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) is best known for his Carnival of the Animals and Organ Symphony. Yet his Fantasy in E flat major arranged for Cornet or Trumpet and Piano remains popular in the advanced repertoire for the instruments. Saint-Saëns entered the Paris Conservatoire at the mere age of thirteen where he studied Organ and composition. He then went on to have a successful career as an organist and composer writing his Fantasy in E flat major in 1857. The piece was originally composed for the Organ but Henri Busser (1872-1973) recognised the work's significance and arranged it for Cornet orTrumpet with Piano accompaniment. To this day Fantasy in E flat major remains prominent in the advanced brass player's repertoire.

Malcolm arnold's concerto for Trumpet was commissioned by the Arts Council of Great Britain for the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Royal College of Music. Trumpeter John Wallace was the soloists at the first performance in the Royal Albert Hall on 30 January 1983.
