Vivaldi achieved popularity throughout Europe with his collection “L’estro armonico” Op.3. He wrote the cycle which consists of twelve violin concertos (including Concerto Op.3 No.3 featured here) for the orchestra of the “Ospedale della Pietà” where he was teacher and director for many years.The two fast outer movements from opus 3/3 feature ritornelli combined with more virtuosic solo sections as was prevalent at the time. This ritornello form gives structure to the movements. It also gives the student who plays both the solo and tutti sections in this edition the opportunity to vary the returning motives interms of dynamics and ornamentation. In the short but expressive Largo distinct quarter notes alternate with patterns of sixteenth across all the strings. This allows the student to practise various bowing techniques.

Spring Op. 24 F Major. This edition presents one of the most important chamber works for violin: the Sonata No. 5 for Piano and Violin (?Spring?, Op. 24) in F major by Ludwig van Beethoven. It allows you to work through the piece systematically and at different tempi with accompaniment. The recordings begin with the concert version of each piece, following which you will hear the piano accompaniment at slow and medium tempo to help you practise. Having mastered these slower versions, you?ll now be ready to play with piano accompaniment at the original tempo. All of the versions were recorded live.

This reconstruction of the Concerto in D K.315f was first performed on 15th August 1985 at the Dartington Hall Summer School of Music by Ernst Kovacic (Violin) and Bernard Roberts (Piano) with the Dartington Chamber Orchestra conducted by Diego Masson. Instrumentation includes SOLO VIOLIN; SOLO PIANO; 2 FLUTES; 2 OBOES; 2 HORNS IN D AND G; 2 TRUMPETS; TIMPANI; STRINGS. The duration of this work is 25 minutes. Full score solo and orchestral parts are available on hire from the publishers.
