SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 3 oboes, bassoon, 3 trumpets, timpani, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3114919 Cantata for St. Michael. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Ingrid Jach. Arranged by Paul Horn. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. German title: Man singet mit Freuden vom Sieg. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Special days. Set of Orchestra Parts. BWV 149. Duration 22 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.149/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3114919). ISBN 9790007141233. Key: D major. Language: German/English. Text: Henrici (Picander), Christian Friedrich. Text: Christian Friedrich Henrici (Picander). In composing the Cantata BWV 149 Bach reverted to parts of an earlier work: The opening chorus is a parody of the Jadgkantate BWV 208 (Hunting Cantata). In addition to smaller changes which were made necessary due to the text, Bach used trumpets instead of horns. For this purpose he transposed the movement from F major to C major. Musically, the form of the three arias and their instrumentation is rich in variety. The bass aria (2nd mvt.) is characterized by an active continuo accompaniment. After the secco recitative an extended dance like soprano aria with string accompaniment follows. The third aria (6th mvt.) is impressive due to the animated melody and the forming of a canon between the voices, and especially through the entry of the bassoon as the instrumental counterpart to a duet between the alto and tenor. String Quartet or String Orchestra - easy SKU: BT.DHP-1135315-070 Arranged by Nico Dezaire. De Haske String Orchestra Series. Set (Score and Parts). De Haske Publications #DHP 1135315-070. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1135315-070). ISBN 9789043146814. 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. More Classical Highlights is the follow-up to Classical Highlights, a collection featuring arrangements of classical themes dating from the 17th century up to the19th century. The parts are quite easy and attractively written, but the arrangements stay as faithful as possible to the original works. Baroque music is represented with two highlights: the well-known Canon by Pachelbel may well be the most performed 17th century composition. The power of the piece lies in a bass line of only eight notes, above which the melodic line of the round itself develops. Réjouissance from Music for the Royal Fireworks is a very joyful composition bythe Anglo-German baroque composer Handel. The 18th century classical style gives us the refined minuet by Boccherini, the Italian composer who wrote a wealth of chamber music. The 19th century features in three famous works: the lively Marche Militaire No 1 by the Austrian composer Schubert originates from 3 Marches Militaires for four-handed piano. The Can Can from Orphée aux enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld) is the best-known separately performed piece by the operetta composer Offenbach. Following this exciting dance music there is the beautiful, lofty Largo theme from the second movement of Czech composer Dvorákâ??s From the New World Symphony. In short: Six varying arrangements - challenging and very suitable for performances!
$47.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

The unusual combination of cello, percussion and piano seems more incongruous than it actually sounds. When I first heard the ensemble Aequalis, in a full evening program I was absolutely astonished at the combination of lyricism, pulse, and color. Something about the mix causes the cello to sound marimba-like, the vibraphone to imitate the cello's harmonics, and the piano to become a kind of proto-orchestra of colors and effects. Tsunami was written for Aequalis in the summer and fall of 1991 with the assistance of a grant from Chamber Music America. The title, the Japanese word for tidal wave (which is a misnomer -- tsunamis have nothing to do with the tides), refers to the phenomenon of an undersea disturbance causing a huge wall of water to flood the first land in its path. The initial earthquake or volcanic eruption that sends a seismic shock through the water is invisible -- it's only when that shock wave hits land, recoils, and takes ocean swells back with it, that the wave begins to form. In successive landings, recoilings, and re-landings, this force finally spends itself, usually inundating anything in its path, sometimes to a depth of one hundred feet or more. My piece does not attempt to depict this natural cataclysm -- how could it, with three instruments? -- but the form of the first half of the work is based on it. The initial percussive shock that opens the piece creates a stir in the form of a cello motive marked swelling and employing long portamenti pushing upwards. After a second shock, the cello motive begins an undersea journey -- very slow and lyrical at first -- accompanied by non-pitched percussion only. Eventually the piano joins, first with echoing bass notes, then with a rather mechanical motive high on the keyboard. This force grows, the cello line climbs higher and higher until another double-shock is heard -- perhaps the energy has hit land? Following this, the percussion becomes melodic (marimba), and we now have two lines in canon accompanied by a separate line in the piano. This, too, builds to a climax, and an even louder and more vigorous shock results. Now the texture is a three-way canon with cello, vibraphone, and piano chasing each other in ever faster cycles of sound. The height of this is a triple cadenza in which all three players spend their pent-up energy, one at a time. The second part of the piece follows after a settling-down, and is marked Dancing. This is a rondo, with a recurring theme (heard first in the marimba) followed by three contrasting sections heard between reiterations of the main tune (the form could be diagrammed A-A-B-A-C-A). The mood is one of joyous kinetic energy, with elements of Eastern or Balinese gamelan sounds, and employing several pentatonic scales (as does the first half of the work). It ends in a vigorous, stomping dance. --Dan Welcher  . $31.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Treble Recorder (or Oboe), Violin (or Clarinet) & Piano - Intermediate-Advanced SKU: FP.FHP06 Composed by Peter Hope. Sheet Music and Books. As featured on Radio 3, this heartachingly beautiful short piece by Peter Hope was inspired by a poem by Wendy Cope. For Treble Recorder (or Oboe), Violin (or Clarinet) & Piano. Classical. Collection. Forsyths Publications #FHP06. Published by Forsyths Publications (FP.FHP06). ISBN 9790570504053. The heartachingly beautiful Tallis Remembered is a timeless little piece composed by outstanding British composer Peter Hope for the 2013 William Alwyn Festival, where it featured a violin instead of the clarinet. The work was inspired by Wendy Cope’s wistful poem ‘Tallis’s Canon’ and is effectively a set of through-composed variations on Tallis’s well-known tune. A recording of the work can be heard on the CD 'Windblown: Sonatas for Wind Instruments by Peter Hope'. It has been regularly featured on Radio 3.
Hope has written and arranged for many internationally known names, including Jose Carreras and Kiri te Kanawa, and other composers including John Williams and James Horner. His original compositions include the Suite: Ring of Kerry (which won an Ivor Novello Award in 1968/9), a Trumpet Concerto, performed by Elgar Howarth, a Concertino for bassoon and orchestra, recorded by Graham Salvage with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, and a Recorder Concerto, recorded by John Turner with the Manchester Camerata Ensemble. His Bramall Hall Dances, for recorder and guitar/piano are published by Forsyth Brothers Ltd. and have become a standard repertoire work for the recorder. $14.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

This clever composition by Matt Turner plays to the students love of pirates and sea shanties. This is a great piece to solidify student's understanding of compound meter. Perform this piece with exuberance! The first part of this piece is composed of various dance figures—sometimes in canon—and dynamics should be strictly followed to ensure that the melody can be heard . The descant (violin I) in mm . 25–36 should be played quietly so that the melody in the second violin and viola parts can be heard . Use much of the bow—think lush and full—in the chorale section beginning in m . 93 . Articulations throughout are particularly important to create a dance-like feel . Enjoy as you set sail on your voyage! About Carl Fischer Concert String Orchestra Series This series of pieces (Grade 3 and higher) is designed for advancing ensembles. Orchestra String Sextet, Piano - Grade 2 SKU: CF.YAS99F Composed by Larry Clark. FS SWS. Carl Fischer Young String Orchestra Series. Full score. With Standard notation. 12 pages. Duration 3 minutes, 25 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #YAS99F. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YAS99F). ISBN 9780825884191. UPC: 798408084196. 8.5 x 11 inches. Dance of the Harlequins is a lively work that uses the harmonic progression of the famous Pachelbel Canon as its foundation. Larry Clark uses this line as a jumping-off point to create an ingenuous work that shows the many moods of the Harlequin clown, from joyous to melodramatic. When I started to write this piece I came up with the main melody first, then I harmonized it. In the process of doing that I realized that I was composing a new piece that was based on the harmonic progression found in the famous Canon by Johann Pachelbel. At first this sort of worried me, but then by doing a little research on the famous canon, I realized I was far from alone. There is even an incredibly funny YouTube video called “Pachelbel Rant†where comedian Rob Paravonian points out many of the usages of the chord progression from Pachelbel’s Canon found in many popular/rock songs. Watch it if you get a chance it is very funny! So, I decided to forge ahead and complete the piece. After the main theme begins without introduction that includes short punctuations of the harmony in the lower strings, the main theme is repeated with a countermelody playedby the violas. The cellos then take up a new B theme with the countermelody to this section covered by the first violins. The main theme with counter melody is stated one more time before it is followed by a transition to a more lyrical and augmented theme that is first presented in the violas. This theme repeats now with the melody in the first violins and a countermelody added in the violas. One more statement of the lyrical section theme is presented, but now the celli state the original main theme in augmentation along with the lyrical theme and countermelody. This is followed by an extended transition that leads back tot the B section theme now presented in the violins. After an extended cadence and build, the main theme returns one last time followed by a lively coda to complete the piece. There is something about the use of this famous chord progression that just makes it feel so right. I hope that I did justice to it and provided you and your students with a musical vehicle that will be enjoyable and at the same time educational. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program.—LARRY CLARKLakeland, FL 2011. 2 woodwinds (flutes, treble recorders or flute and oboe) and string orchestra (V2) - intermediate SKU: HL.49002061 Composed by Harald Genzmer. Sheet music. Concertino (Chamber Orchestra). Classical. Solo Part. Composed 1960. 4 pages. Duration 13'. Schott Music #CON 61-02. Published by Schott Music (HL.49002061). ISBN 9790001022156. The 'Divertimento giocoso' by Harald Genzmer created in 1960 is scored for two woodwind instruments (flutes, recorders or transverse flute and oboe) as solo instruments opposed to the string orchestra. The composer, whose work suits the amateur music-making very much in many respects, succeeded in creating a tonal arrangement that is individual in style. In the first movement, this rhythmically very lively, thematically clearly visible and harmonically inter-esting though not revolutionary work presents the strings and the solo instruments often enter-ing canonically with an easily remembered -seventh motif; in the second movement, it leads a melody dying away a long time to a dynamic climax, adds harmonic cross relations to a scherzo moving in dance style and closes with a lively vivace movement.
