Missa in incerto tempore (The Davison Mass) (2018) was commissioned by the Harvard Glee Club. It was premiered by the Harvard Glee Club, Cambridge, Massachusetts (Andrew Clark, Director of Choral Activities) and the All Saints' Choir of Men and Boys (Ashmont Boy Choir), Dorchester, Massachusetts; (Andrew Sheranian, Organist and Master of Choristers). The Latin title, meaning Mass in uncertain times, refers to the centuries of comfort, inspiration, and spiritual enrichment that the mass (and the musical settings for its celebration) has provided to many individuals through difficulty and uncertainty. I cannot deny that the times in which this piece was composed are the most nationally and internationally uncertain of my own life to date. That fact had a definite impact on the tone and emotional character of the piece. However, there is a universality as well, since one could readily feel that all times have a sense of uncertainty, especially since we never know exactly what the future holds. The first three movements have somewhat enigmatic endings. The end of the Agnus Dei tries to temper (but not erase) that uncertainty with a degree of optimism and fervor in a passionate plea of Dona nobis pacem. Instrumentation: SATB Chorus, Men's Chorus, and Two Organs (Opt. One Organ) Duration: 20' Composed: 2018 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Suite in F (2017) is in three movements: Praeambulum, Ground, and Fantasia. The first movement, Praeambulum, begins with F's as descending octaves followed by a rising scalar passage. This theme returns throughout the movement and also serves to provide the harmonic material for the intervening episodes. The second movement, Ground, unfolds over a repeating bass line, beginning with a spare two-part texture (that returns near the end) and increases in harmonic density. The third movement, Fantasia, begins in F and introduces its two basic musical ideas: a fanfare-like march figure and a pattern of quickly alternating 3rds. The music moves through several modal areas before reaching an exultant conclusion. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 11' Composed: 2017 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Symphony for Organ (2013) is cast as a dramatic progression from darkness into light. The first movement, Masque, is extremely violent and bleak. The title is used with a touch of irony--for this is not a masque of courtly diversion, but rather a furious struggle against the darkness, played out in a series of dramatic episodes following a Tudor-era formal design. The ending builds to a dramatic peak, and leaves us in shell-shocked silence. The second movement, Sarabande, begins quietly and mournfully, and gradually gains in fervency. A faster middle section is a spinning dance before the return of the opening music. In the coda, the light gradually approaches. The third movement, Chorale, evokes the colors of a new dawn. The music of the first movement's struggle gradually becomes washed in the blaze of morning. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 21' Composed: 2013 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Keyboard Duration: 5' Composed: 2014 Published by: Zimbel Press The formal inspiration for this piece came from early Italian keyboard toccatas (those of Frescobaldi are probably the most famous today, though there are certainly many others). However, the early influences do not come exclusively from a single source. The toccatas of Hassler, the ricercari of Steigleder, the fantasias of Cornet and Kerckhoven, the fugues of Couperin, and anonymous late medieval keyboard music all are thrown into the mix, and blended with a contemporary use of mixed modality. This piece may be played on any keyboard instrument (organ, piano, harmonium/reed organ, harpsichord, clavichord, or electronic keyboard).

Overture to Uncle Vanya (2022) is an overture to an imaginary opera based on the play of the same name (publ. 1898) by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov (1860-1904). The music is not directly programmatic but rather, in the typical manner of an overture, ruminates in a compact form on moods, themes, scenes, and characters from the play itself. Actual opera overtures have historically had their own life as independent concert pieces, and thus the attempt here is to present an atmospheric picture, even without an opera or play following it.Organ Duration: 9' Composed: 2022 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Rhapsody in A (2017) is dedicated to organist Alessandro Bianchi and was written for premiere performance on the 1904 Lewis & Co. organ in Ayr Town Hall, Ayr, Scotland, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the organ concert series there. The title refers both to the tonal/modal center of A and to the first letters of both Alessandro and Ayr. The rhapsody is entirely based on the unaccompanied melody first heard at the outset. This melody serves as the basis of the following contrasting sections; it is used both motivically and to determine the harmonic excursions. The music ends jubilantly. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 8' Composed: 2017 Published by: Zimbel Press.
