Daughters of Erin was commissioned by and dedicated to the University of Notre Dame Concert Band, Dr. Ken Dye, director. It was composed in 2020 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first women to be admitted into the Notre Dame Concert Band. The university was an all-male school from its founding in 1842. The Notre Dame Band was formed during the 1845-46 academic year. The university became co-educational with the admission of women in 1972. Two years earlier, in 1970, the band director Robert F.
