| Missa in incerto tempore (The Davison Mass) Choral SATB Zimbel Press
SATB Chorus, Men's Chorus, & Two Organs (Opt. One Organ) SKU: SU.80101419 ...(+)
SATB Chorus, Men's Chorus, & Two Organs (Opt. One Organ) SKU: SU.80101419 For SATB Chorus, Men's Chorus, & Two Organs (Opt. One Organ). Composed by Carson Cooman. Vocal/Choral, Sacred Choral. Accompanied by organ, Men’s Chorus. Choral Octavo. Zimbel Press #80101419. Published by Zimbel Press (SU.80101419). Missa in incerto tempore (The Davison Mass) (2018) was commissioned by the Harvard Glee Club. It was premiered by the Harvard Glee Club, Cambridge, Massachusetts (Andrew Clark, Director of Choral Activities) and the All Saints' Choir of Men and Boys (Ashmont Boy Choir), Dorchester, Massachusetts; (Andrew Sheranian, Organist and Master of Choristers). The Latin title, meaning Mass in uncertain times, refers to the centuries of comfort, inspiration, and spiritual enrichment that the mass (and the musical settings for its celebration) has provided to many individuals through difficulty and uncertainty. I cannot deny that the times in which this piece was composed are the most nationally and internationally uncertain of my own life to date. That fact had a definite impact on the tone and emotional character of the piece. However, there is a universality as well, since one could readily feel that all times have a sense of uncertainty, especially since we never know exactly what the future holds. The first three movements have somewhat enigmatic endings. The end of the Agnus Dei tries to temper (but not erase) that uncertainty with a degree of optimism and fervor in a passionate plea of Dona nobis pacem. Instrumentation: SATB Chorus, Men's Chorus, and Two Organs (Opt. One Organ) Duration: 20' Composed: 2018 Published by: Zimbel Press. $4.75 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

I’ll trade you this for that! Whether trading marbles, baseball cards, or doll clothes, children have always enjoyed the game of trading. In this captivating book, illustrator Gabriella Geida imagines this beloved folk song as a way of trading toys between friends. Also known as “The Foolish Boy,†“Wim Wim Wobble O,†“I Went to London,†and “Old John Braddalum,†the song is most likely British in origin and was frequently recorded in the twentieth century. “The Foolish Boy†is an old English nursery rhyme whose story can be found in variations in Hans Christian Andersen and The Brothers Grimm. The theme of making swaps, each one with a worse outcome than the previous swap, can be found in German folklore. Like the other picture books in John M. Feierabend’s First Steps in Music series, The Swapping Song includes a description of the history of the song, the notation of the song, and a link to a free MP3 download of the song, sung by Jill Trinka. John M. Feierabend, PhD, has spent decades compiling songs and rhymes from the memories of the American people in hopes that these treasures will be preserved for future generations. He is a leading authority on child development in music and movement and served as Professor and Chair of the Music Education Department of the Hartt School of the University of Hartford. Ensemble (Study Score) SKU: HL.49019220 For ensemble. Composed by Gerald Barry. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Study Score. Softcover. Composed 2008-2009. 80 pages. Duration 20'. Schott Music #ED13363. Published by Schott Music (HL.49019220). ISBN 9790220133114. Feldman's was a music shop in London in the early 20th century. They sold collections of popular music for playing at home, and some of these were called 'Feldman's Sixpenny Editions'. Collections like these were among my first feverish encounters with music as a boy. I fell in love with pieces like 'Martial Steps' and 'The dog barks, the caravan passes On'. I entered into them completely, becoming one not only with the music, but with the paper they were printed on, and the advertisements on the back. I pored over these, laying my face on them, waiting for signs of my future direction. The piano plays a significant role in the music. The last piece in the collection, 'The Innermost Secret', refers to the lunches Satie had with Debussy. Satie said that Debussy cooked pork chops 'with the innermost secret'. 2 guitars SKU: BO.B.3649 Composed by A. Soler/L. Palomo. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3649). Padre Antonio Soler is the most important Spanish composer of keyboard instruments of the XVIII century. Born in Olot he was baptized in 1729 and died in El Escorial in 1787. As a young boy he entered the Escolania of Montserrat, where he studied composition and organ, coinciding at the same monastery with the also Spanish composer of that time, Fernando Sor. Padre Soler spent great part of his life in El Escorial as chapel master and organist and met in Madrid Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti with whom he developped a deep friendship inspired on mutual admiration.
In spite of the similar styles of both composers the fluid inspiration of Padre Soler excels for his own personality, definitely influenced by Spanish roots. Furthermore, I ask myself if the fact of being at the same monastery of Montserrat with guitarist composer Fernando Sor didn't play an important role in the future development of Padre Soler's style.
I have transcribed for two guitars these three sonatas in the hope that also the guitarists can enjoy playing these little jewels, truly musical delights, that Padre Antonio Soler left for us. $20.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Sixteen essays by international scholars celebrate the 250th anniversary of Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762), star pupil of Corelli and composer, performer and teacher in Paris, London and Dublin, who for many years was ranked as the equal of Handel. His compositions moved far beyond Corelli's model (to include theatre music, sonatas for cello and keyboard works) and later in his life he supported his aesthetic style with treatises on violin and guitar playing, good taste, accompaniment and composition. He published all his output in the most elegant style via engravers and music sellers in Paris, Amsterdam and London, and constantly revised and rewrote earlier works in new and often expanded formats. This legacy is analysed and placed in context within the various national styles current in Europe, and the enormous influence of his treatise The Art of Playing on the Violin is positioned in a continuum which extends to Ivan Galamian. Outside music these studies examine the effect of Freemasonry on Geminiani's career, and his frequent recourse to law to defend his rights. On his own admission, Geminiani preferred dealing in fine art to playing the violin -- a claim always derided by earlier writers, but in fact easily defended by newly available evidence of his highly successful sales. The reception of Geminiani's music is also re-assessed and his apparent decline in public favour is explained; many new sources contradict the accepted and dismissive opinions of Charles Burney and John Hawkins, and the supportive enthusiasm of his main British advocate, Charles Avison, is given its rightful position. Questions of present-day performance values are also contrasted with Geminiani's philosophy, and many leads presented for the future investigation of this enigmatic but individual genius. $158.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

When Hearts Tremble is an emotion packed piece dedicated to musician friends lost all to soon. This beautiful composition by Brant Karrick reflects on the fragility of human existence, joyous memories of loved ones and their effect on everyone around them, and maintaining hope for what the future will hold when all feels lost. This tour de force piece perfectly displays Karrick's polished compositional craft with impeccable scoring, beautiful melodic writing, and exceptional orchestrational color. While the day-to-day grind of our lives can be filled with overwhelming obligations, goals and commitments, it is sometimes very easy to forget just how precious and fragile life is . It is so easy to get caught up in our own personal feelings and worries that we sometimes don’t realize and appreciate the many blessings we have, especially friendships . On Wednesday, November 18, 2015 the Jefferson High School Band in Jefferson, Georgia lost two of its members to a fatal car accident . The victims were brothers . Music was a constant part of their lives, and the boys were talented percussionists in the marching band . To help with the grieving process the school and community commissioned this piece to celebrate the lives of William and Alex Trimble .As a father, I cannot imagine losing a child, let alone two, and beginning this piece was very difficult as I felt extreme anguish, especially for the parents . But it was decided the piece should primarily reflect the enthusiasm, youthful spirits and positive influence these two young men demonstrated as they were deeply loved by their band mates, community and family . There are four main themes, each representing the feelings and emotions that are certain to occur after a loss of loved ones . The first theme is a short, introductory fanfare, strong and bold, to stand for courage . A second dance-like melody features a liltingly mixed meter to portray a youthful and carefree innocence . This soon changes into a third more song-like, and stately theme intended to provide encouragement as we move forward through life .The middle of the piece includes a soft transition as two snare drummers give voice to the boys, allowing them to thank their friends and assuring them that it will be okay . This moves directly into a slow melody introduced by the saxophones (Alex, the younger brother was also a saxophonist) and is a time for reflection and allows for feelings of sadness at losing beloved friends . However, a second statement of the same theme, now at full volume with a strong percussion cadence, intends to lift the spirits and allows all friends to unite in joyous celebration of life . Both the enthusiastic dance theme and stately lyrical theme return, now in different keys, and work their way toward the highly energetic burst of glorious sound in the short and wild coda . When Hearts Tremble was written to celebrate the joys of youth and life, and should remind us that our friends and loved ones are precious, and we should live each day to bring more joy into the world and into the lives of others . $140.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

In addition to celebrating the history of male choirs in the United States, Conducting Men’s Choirs provides a thorough and practical guide for working with TTBB choruses of any age or experience. The chapters by Jerry Blackstone, Jefferson Johnson, and J. Reese Norris display knowledge gained from over seventy years of collective experience. Additionally, Trott has designed the book to be an outstanding repertoire resource and a window to future possibilities through the inclusion of Marques Garrett’s chapter ‘Composing and Arranging for Male Choirs’ and Gary Packwood’s chapter ‘From Entertainment to Social Justice: Examining Men’s Community Choruses in America.’ The content in Conducting Men’s Choirs represents theory and practice that will benefit all conductors of TTBB choruses. —Kevin Fenton   Florida State University Inspired by Debra Spurgeon’s pioneering book Conducting Women’s Choirs, this companion resource, compiled and edited by Donald Trott, brings together the expertise of eighteen acknowledged authorities on men’s choirs. Conducting Men’s Choirs addresses the unique challenges, considerations, and joys of making music with male singers. The book is organized into three major sections, the first of which contains historical essays on male choirs in the United States. The chapters in this section span a range of relevant topics, including glee clubs in colleges and universities, an examination of some of the nation’s most esteemed and accomplished male choirs, and the role of male community choruses in America. The second section explores key aspects of working with male singers that are vital to the success of any conductor of male choirs. Topics addressed include: How to start a male choir and recruit male singers. Working with middle school boys and the developing adolescent voice. Pedagogical considerations for male voices.
