Ottone HWV 15; Opera in three acts.Version of the first performance 1723.Handel completed his opera ?Ottone? in August 1722 but the first performance did not take place until January 1723 in the Haymarket Theatre London; the composer had waited so long for the famous soprano Francesca Cuzzoni who he had in mind for the role of Teofane.?Ottone? was an immediate success from the beginning not only for its top-class cast but also because of its formal and musical structure. It received numerous revivals until 1733.Stylistically ?Ottone? follows in the Neapolitan operatradition with emotionally charged arias as the principal vehicles of expression whilst the plot is carried forward in the secco recitatives. The dramatic action is interpreted and intensified through the choice of arias and keys. The Vocal score is based on volume II/12 of the ?Halle Handel Edition? (BA 4077) which contains the complete critical musical text of the opera for the first time.- First critical edition based on the Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition.- Additional numbers from later performances included in the appendix.- Foreword (Ger/Eng).- Full score (BA4077) & Vocal score (BA4077-90) available for sale.- Performance material (BA4077-72) available for hire.

Serenade in three parts-Handel set the myth about the love of the shepherd Acis ...(+)
Serenade in three parts-Handel set the myth about the love of the shepherd Acis for the sea nymph Galatea from Ovid?s ?Metamorphoses? a total of three times: in the cantata ?Aci Galatea e Polifemo? HWV 72 (1708) the masque ?Acis and Galatea? HWV 49a (1718) and finally the pasticcio-like serenata ?Acis and Galatea? HWV 49b (1732) of which the original version is now made available in its complete form for the first time. A particular charm is provided by the use of two languages in the serenata. The work was originally conceived in English as was required for the first performance. However Handel?sItalian singers were criticised for their poor command of English ? so in the end many numbers were sung in Italian. The extensive appendix to the vocal score includes the additional arias and newly composed movements for the versions used in the 1734 and 1736 performances. - Urtext edition based on the ?Halle Handel Edition? - English and Italian original text with singable German translation - Extensive foreword in two languages (Ger/Eng) - Clear straightforward piano reduction - Full score (BA10700) and vocal score (BA10700-90) available for sale performance material (BA10700-72) for hire

Agrippina is married to her third husband the Roman emperor Claudius. After he is presumed dead she attempts with deception andintrigue to place her son Nero on the throne. The vocal score includes all the numbers from the appendix of the full score. Per Gli Sponsali Di Teti e Peleo - HWV 73-The main text of this edition of Hande...(+)
Per Gli Sponsali Di Teti e Peleo - HWV 73-The main text of this edition of Handel?s wedding serenata ?Parnasso in festa per gli sponsali di Teti e Peleo? (HWV 73) is based on the version used for the work?s first performances in March of 1734. Three appendices retrace the complex history of the work significantly different versions of which were used for revival performances in 1737 1740 and 1741. Included are abandoned and modified parts of the score as well as a documentation of changes made to the characters.Handel composed ?Parnasso in festa? for the wedding of Anne Princess Royal and Prince William of Orange which took place on March 14 1734 in London. As Handel?s contribution to the publicfestivities the serenata was performed the evening before the nuptials at King?s Theatre in the Haymarket. The bridal couple attended the performance. While the Italian text of the serenata was newly set most likely by Giacomo Rossi most of the music was drawn from pieces of Handel?s earlier works among them ?Athalia? from ?Radamisto? (HWV 12a) ?Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno? (HWV 46a) and ?Delirio amoroso? (HWV 99). Newly composed parts are limited to eight vocal pieces the sinfonia at the beginning of part 3 and the beginning of the overture. The available source material reflects the history of the work: There is no autograph composition score while the conducting score reflects a collaboration between Handel and his main copyist John Christopher Smith senior. However composition scores of individual newly composed pieces have been preserved.New edition based on the latest research after thorough examination of all relevant primary and secondary sourcesExtensive editorial Foreword about the work?s conception mythological background transmission reception and a survey of sources (Ger/Eng) with extensive critical report (Eng)Selected musical facsimiles as well as complete facsimile of the printed libretto of 1734Urtext of the Halle Handel EditionFull score (BA10718-01) and vocal score (BA10718-90) available for salePerformance material (BA10718-72) available for hire

O come let us sing HWV 253 Chandos Anthem No.8Handel’s three anthems (My song shall be alway HWV 252 O come let us sing HWV 253 O praise the Lord HWV 254) were composed in 1717 and 1718 for Cannons a country estate near to London. They take their nickname the “Chandos Anthems” from the owner of the estate the First Duke of Chandos. The three pieces are noteworthy for their festive character and their varied orchestral accompaniment. Handel borrows older material from his Italian period and his earlier works for the Chapel Royal in London – a standard procedure for this composer who reusedparticularly successful pieces as starting points for his later works. The scoring for solo voices chorus oboe strings and continuo was tailored to the musical resources of the small country estate. Two additional recorders are needed for “O come let us sing unto the Lord”.The anthems present the Urtext from the “Halle Handel Edition” and include uncomplicated and easy-to-play Piano reductions. In addition to the original English words the full scores and vocal scores also include a singing translation in German.- Full score & parts (BA4293) and vocal score (BA4293-90) available for sale

HWV 258 accompanied the king’s anointment HWV 260 his actual coronation. Thanks to their festive and majestic structure befitting the occasion as well as their spacious scoring for Large Choir and Orchestra it comes as no surprise that motifs from Zadok the priest have found their way into the official hymn of the UEFA Champions League. Opera in 3 Acts. Also available for sale hardback full score (BA4076) and performance material for hire.Handel started writing ?Serse? on 26 December 1737 and completed the third act on 6 February 1738. The première took place on 15 April of the same year at the King?s Theatre in the Haymarket. Four performances followed after which the work was not heard again until 1924.The opera focuses on the Persian king Serse who rather than serving as a military commander or statesman appears at the centre of a highly complex love story. Handel provided an admixture of buffo elements (the antics of the servantElviro the stupidity of the soldier Ariodate) to the standard ingredients of opera seria such as the broadly declaimed woes of Serse Romilda Arsamene and Amastre. This interweaving of seemingly incompatible stylistic resources arose in Naples and can already be found in the 17th century librettos that served as the principal sources of Handel?s Serse.Though unsuccessful at the time today ?Serse? is prized precisely for its comic undertones and is regularly seen on stage. Our new Urtext vocal score is based on the volume edited by Terence Best for the ?Halle Handel Edition? As with many other libretti by Pietro Metastasio ?Ezio? was also set to music several times besides Handel by Nicola Porpora in 1728 and Christoph Willibald Gluck in 1750. As the historical events from late antiquity surrounding the Western Roman General Aëtius who had defeated the Huns under Attila on the Catalaunian Fields had largely fallen into oblivion by the 18th century they merely form a backdrop to the highly-dramatic ?Sex and Crime? on the operatic stage. In contrast with the original Roman story ?Ezio? remains alive at the ?happy ending? and the enthusiastic public experienced this version for the first timeon 15 January 1732 in London. However despite this the opera only received five performances during Handel?s lifetime. Handel took the overture from his incomplete opera ?Titus l?Empereur?.Performance material available for hire.Vocal score based on the Halle Handel Edition.Original Italian text with German singing translation underlaid.Figured bass realisation and editorial additions in cue-sized notes.Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng)

Rodelinda Regina de' Longobardi HWV 19; Opera in three acts. After Giulio Cesare...(+)
Rodelinda Regina de' Longobardi HWV 19; Opera in three acts. After Giulio Cesare and Tamerlano Rodelinda is the third masterly opera that Handel composed between December 1723 and January 1725. The words were written by Nicola Haym the author of many other Handel librettos. The first performance took place at the King’s Theatre in the Haymarket London on 13 February 1725. Rodelinda thrives entirely on the ethical supremacy of conjugal love and thus prefigures the great operas by Gluck and Beethoven on the same subject. The plot is taken from the history of the Lombard royalty. Oskar Hagen’s revival of Rodelinda in 1920 ushered in the modern Handel operamovement. The work forms the climax to a series of dramatic masterpieces that includes Handel’s most significant operas. Handel returned to Rodelinda on two occasions in December 1725 and in May 1731. Many far-reaching changes were necessary owing to the different skills of the new singers. For example Handel wrote three new arias and a duet for the first revival. Yet the changes he made for this performance doubtless to accommodate the needs and wishes of the singers also improve the work’s dramatic substance. Our vocal score is based on the Urtext of the full score published in the Halle Handel Edition (II/16) and reproduces the various alternative readings and versions in an appendix.Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition.Full score (BA4064) & vocal score (BA4064-90) available for sale.Performance material (BA4064-72) available for hire
