Created in 1851, 'Ride of the Valkyries' is the prelude to the third act of the music drama 'The Valkyrie'. The purely instrumental version soon found its way onto the concert stages and turned out to be a first-rate attraction. Apart from 'Treulich geführt', 'Ride of the Valkyries' probably is Wagner's most popular melody.More intimate insights, however, are given by 'Siegfried-Idyll'. In 1870, Richard Wagner came up with a rather special birthday present for his wife Cosima. He surprised her with a secretly composed orchestral work the dedication of which alludes to impressions or circumstances at the birth of their common son Siegfried. / Orchestre

Trilogie Sacrée. Par BERLIOZ HECTOR. The history of the composition of the oratorio is odd: the kernel of this three-part work were the movements from the middle section, the “Flight to Egypt, ” which Berlioz composed on a whim in 1850 and which he passed off as the work of a baroque composer whose existence he himself had invented. In 1854 the triptych, which was completed with the parts entitled “The dream of Herodes” and “The arrival at Sais, ” had its celebrated first performance. Starting from the Gospel of St. Matthew, with the visit of the astrologer to Herodes and the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt, Berlioz chose to relate the story of the events of Christmas from another angle, other than as it is almostalways depicted, after the Gospel of Luke. This skillful dramatisation, with impressive instrumental sections, such as the independent trio for two flutes and harp as well as the effective choruses with local color, make this “sacred trilogy” a genuine alternative for performance at Christmas time. The score, published in 1855, contained a second singing text in German which had been translated from the French by Peter Cornelius. The critical edition by Carus presents a new translation by Klaus Kreuser which, as opposed to the text by Cornelius, adheres more closely to the French original and avoids becoming an embellished idyll. / Oratorio / Répertoire / Solistes STBarB, Choeur SATB, 2 Flûtes Traversière

Par COHEN JONATHAN. Grow As A River for Flute Choir, by Jonathan Cohen. Composed for DCFlutes in celebration of their 10th Anniversary. This piece describes the life of a river from inception to maturity. It begins with tenuous drops from melting ice, slowly forming into a brook that playfully dances around rocks and over bumps until it becomes a majestic and peaceful flow. The idyll is shattered by a raging waterfall, the erratic motion and anarchy and terror are gradually replaced by the exhilaration and then peace of motion and arrival. Finally, there is proud celebration in the power and accomplishment and future of the fully mature river. / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Flûtes

Par REIMANN ARIBERT. Aribert Reimann?s ?Trilogie lyrique? is based on three plays by Maurice Maeterlinck:
In L? Intruse, a family is sitting at the table with their blind grandfather. They are waiting for the doctor to arrive and tend to his daughter who is lying ill in bed after having given birth: her new-born son has not yet made a single sound. The old man senses that something is wrong due to the uneasy atmosphere in the room. ?Who is sitting in our midst?? he asks. He is the only one who can see the presence of death.
Intérieur: Once again a family is gathered round the table in the evening, but this time we observe the action from outside, looking through the window with the grandfather and a stranger: no sound can be heard. Outside the house, the stranger reports that the eldest daughter has drowned and that he has pulled her out of the river. Although the corpse is already being carried through the village to the family, the grandfather cannot bring himself to destroy this idyll.
La Mort de Tintagiles: The young Tintagiles is told a story about a mysterious castle and the aged queen who has all potential heirs to the throne murdered. His siblings sense that Tintagiles has been summoned to the castle to be murdered, but nobody openly expresses this fact. It is the sinister messengers of death from the interludes, now visible as the queen?s servants, who ful?l her demand and snatch the sleeping boy from his sisters? arms.

Orgue
