(+)
Symphony in Bb major Hob. I:102-The twelve London Symphonies??? comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn???s symphonic ??uvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. The energetic surging B-flat-major Symphony no. 102 belongs to the group of the last three symphonies premiered in early 1795. Exceptionally Haydn here dispenses with the clarinets that are otherwise generally featured in his late symphonies. The instrumentation of the Adagio is also unusual in that Haydn includes trumpets and timpani both muted. This study edition adopts the musical text of theHaydn Complete Edition thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy score an ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans.

Piano

Symphony in Eb major Hob. I:103 (Drumroll)-The twelve London Symphonies??? comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn???s symphonic ??uvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. The E-flat-major Symphony no. 103 was composed in 1795 as the penultimate of the London Symphonies. It owes its epithet to its unique beginning: a solo drumroll in the timpani ushers in the slow introduction. This opening bar marked with Haydn???s heading Intrada??? and a pause even inspires many a performer to venture a short timpani improvisation. This study edition adopts the musical text of the HaydnComplete Edition thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy score an ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans.

Franz Joseph Haydn: Streichtrios Heft III: String Trio: Parts
String Trio: 2 violins, cello

(+)
Following the first two volumes of Haydn’s String Trios in a study score (HN 9424 and 9425) we are now publishing the third and final one. Although Haydn is said to have composed about 60string trios most of them must be discounted for source-critical and stylistic reasons. The eighteen trios which definitely lay claim to authenticity were published in volumes 1 and 2. The third volume contains eight triosattributed to Haydn although his authorship cannot be proven. In addition to the Urtext edition (HN 628) these charming works are now also available in a handy score format. The musical text is that of the HaydnComplete Edition and it has been complemented by a new and informative preface by the Haydn scholar Sonja Gerlach.

(+)
London with its bustling musical scene always provided Haydn with welcome surroundings at a time when the Flute was extraordinarily popular among English amateurs. The Earl of Abingdon an accomplished flautist undoubtedly enjoyed playing these entertaining trios. Abingdon was a member of Haydn?s circle of acquaintances in London and a composer in his own right: a theme from one of his songs (?The Lady?s Mirror?) servedHaydn for a set of variations in the second trio. Neither of the men could have foreseen the huge success that these cheerful and straightforward pieces would enjoy among music-lovers all over the world.

Symphony No.52 in C minor Hob.I:52 (HAYDN JOSEPH)

(+)
Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Only eleven of the over one hundred symphonies by Joseph Haydn are composed in a minor key. Written in the early 1770s, the Symphony Hob.I:52 in C minor bears some similarities to the slightly earlier Symphony in E minor Hob.I:44 (?Mourning?, BA 10988), not only because they both are composed in a minor key but also because they both feature a pair of horns tuned at different pitches. Haydn seems to have experimented with differently tuned horns inspired by an article in Johann Adam Hiller?s journal ?Musikalische Nachrichten und Anmerkungen? of July 1770, which suggested to tune the horns a minor third apart in order to expand the total horn range. While Haydn followed this recommendation just like that in the E-minor symphony, he chose to have the horns tuned a major sixth apart (high C and E-flat) in the outer movements of the C-minor symphony Hob. I:52, resulting in an unusual horn sound within the orchestral texture. In continuation of the collaboration between Bärenreiter and G. Henle Verlag, this edition is based on the Urtext of the Complete Edition ?Joseph Haydn Works? published by G. Henle Verlag. - Urtext of the Complete Edition ?Joseph Haydn Works? published by G. Franz Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto In C Hob.VIIb: Cello: Instrumental Work

Haydn’s Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in C major (Hob. VIIb:1) w...
(+)
Haydn’s Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in C major (Hob. VIIb:1) was probably composed between 1762 and 1765 when he was already director of music to Prince Esterh zy. It may have been writtenfor the cellist in the court Orchestra Joseph Weigl (1740-1820) for whom Haydn most likely also wrote the solo Cello parts in his early symphonies. Weigl was a member of the Esterh zy ensemble from 1761 to 1769 andthereafter served as a principle cellist in various Viennese ensembles. The concerto was rediscovered by Oldrich Pulkert who in 1961 found an eighteenth-century manuscript copy (Prag National Museum Fonds Radenin) andpublished the concerto in 1962. Previously the existence of this piece was known only through Haydn’s entry in his private list of works (the so-called ‘Entwurf’ [‘draft’] catalogue). The Orchestral setting ismodest: besides the Strings (with a non-obligato Bassoon doubling the Bass part) there are two Oboes and two Horns which are reserved almost exclusively for the tutti passages. This Piano reduction is based on the text givenin the complete edition of Haydn’s works as edited by the Joseph Haydn Institute Cologne (Joseph Haydn Werke Series III Vol.2 with Preface and Critical Report published by G. Henle Verlag Munich 1981). The Cello partin the Piano reduction is identical to that of the complete edition and thus follows the Prague source as closely as possible even in the expression marks and in certain peculiarities of notation.

Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Haydn Symphony No.69 in C major (Laudon) (Hob.I:69) (Full Score) Letters of the composer have come down to us only on a few of Haydn’s symphonies, amongst them the “Laudon” Symphony Hob. I:69. In one of these letters, Haydn agrees to the publisher’s suggestion to name the symphony after the widely known and favoured general Gideon Ernst von Laudon (1717-1790). By using this name, both composer and publisher hoped to increase the commercial success of the work which possibly deserved a military eponym considering its instrumentation with timpani and trumpets. Also, the symphony requires two bassoons, but no flutes, corresponding with the available musicians at the court of Esterházy between 1775 and 1776. This work probably originated no later than 1770. Its first and second movements quote excerpts from Gregorian chants used in Holy Week. In Haydn?s day it was customary to play individual movements in church services and it may be assumed that these two movements were performed and possibly composed independently from each other.Continuing thecollaboration between Bärenreiter and the Henle publishing company in the areas of large-scale choral works operas and symphonies Haydn?s Symphony No.26 is appearing based on the Henle Complete Edition of the Works of Joseph Haydn. When Christa Landon presented the first printed version of her edition of Joseph Haydn's Piano sonatas Haydn's sonata oeuvre was still overshadowed by the works of Mozart and Beethoven. Since then Haydn's sonatas have progressed from the teaching rooms to the concert halls and Landon's edition has played a crucial role in that process. The Haydn anniversary in 2009 is a welcome occasion to thoroughly revise this 'legendary' edition for over the course of more than forty years new sources have come to light and questions of authenticity have been resolved not least because the editorial principles for 18th-centurymusic have changed considerably. The new edition comprises all works of the previous Wiener Urtext edition plus the sonata Hob. XVI:16 edited by Landon along with the Sonata in F major which was rediscovered in Bozen a few years ago and attributed to Joseph Haydn. The new edition is published in four volumes the content of each volume being compatible with the volumes of the previous edition. Volumes 1 and 2 contain the early sonatas. In the Notes on Interpretation Robert D. Levin explains important aspects of Haydn's performance practice.

Hob I:81-Haydn?s Symphony in G major Hob.I:81 comes from a series of three symphonies completed in late 1784 (nos. 81 80 and 79 presumably in that order). Henle publishing company regarding Haydn?s large-scale choral works operas and symphonies this edition is based on the G. Henle Complete Edition of the Works of Joseph Haydn. Bärenreiterhas now published the complete performance material for several Sturm und Drang symphonies and all the London and Paris symphonies (Nos. 81 to 104).- Based on the G. Hob. I:91-This four-movement work with a slow introduction is Haydn?s last symphony for ?Small? Orchestra i.e. without Trumpets and Timpani. However it has long passages for solo Violoncello and is also scored for two Bassoons. The editor of this edition recommends a performance with low Horns (additionally included in the wind set) to prevent the musical character of the Andante from being compromised by the predominantly high registers.Continuing the collaboration between Bärenreiter and the Henle publishing company in the areas of large choral works operas and symphonies this edition is appearing based on the Henle Complete Edition of theWorks of Joseph Haydn. (+)
When Joseph Haydn composed his smaller early Piano sonatas then called divertimentos he clearly kept the beginner and amateur pianist in mind. With only few technical demands these works nevertheless provide an excellent insight into the cosmos of Haydn's Piano music and introduce the player to Haydn's musical language in an exemplary manner. The current edition combines four of the most popular of these easy sonatas for beginners' lessons which already contain essential elements of the classical Viennese Piano style. The text is based on the revised new edition by Ulrich Leisinger who is also responsible for the legendary urtextedition of Joseph Haydn's Piano sonatas by Christa Landon.

Haydn's Symphony #26 received its nickname 'Lamentazione? during his lifetime, though it is unclear whether this stems directly from the composer. This work probably originated no later than 1770. Its first and second movements quote excerpts from Gregorian chants used in Holy Week. In Haydn's day it was customary to play individual movements in church services, and it may be assumed that these two movements were performed, and possibly composed, independently from each other.Continuing the collaboration between Bärenreiter and the Henle publishing company in the areas of large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies, Haydn's Symphony #26 is appearing, based on the Henle Complete Edition of the 'Works of Joseph Haydn?. Haydn: Complete Piano Sonatas Vol. 4: Piano: Instrumental Work
Piano solo
Wiener Urtext

(+)
