There is no doubt that the goal of singing each other's liturgical music as an expression of the catholicity of our faith embodied in this volume, does in fact allow bilingual and multicultural parishes through the United States—and beyond—to respond to the liturgical needs of today while opening the door to new possibilities. — Becca Whitla The Hymn Society Journal. For SATB unaccompanied Jackson's work couples the expressive language of a medieval Latin hymn with the Collect for St Margaret of Scotland. The use of hockets and isorhythms give the music a deep medieval grounding, whilst the beautifully ornamented melodies bring out a distinctively 'Scottish' sound to this dramatic work.

Isaac Watts (1674-1748) wrote the lyrics of There is a land of pure delight and is known as the Father of English Hymnody. Watts was for the English hymn as Ambrose was for the medieval Latin hymn and what Martin Luther was for the German chorale. He wrote about 750 songs, and some of them survide the ravahes of time. (Joy To The World, When I survey the wondrous cross, I sing the Mighty Power of God) There is a Land of Pure Delight is usually in English-speaking areas sung on Luther Orlando Emerson's melody ('Ascription'). Here is used a traditional English melody ('Mendip'). There is a land of pure delight Wheresaints immortal Reign. Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasures banish pain . (Joy to the World, When I survey the wondrous cross, I singthe mighty Power of God) 'There is a Land of Pure Delight' wordt in Engelstalige gebieden meestal op een melodie van Luther Orlando Emerson gezongen ('Ascription'). In Nederland is het lied opgenomen in het 'Liedboekder Kerken' (gez. 290). Hier wordt gebruik gemaakt van een Engelse traditionele melodie ('Mendip'). There is a land of pure delight Where saints immortal reign. Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasuresbanish pain.

Legendary composer Richard Proulx has made an indelible contribution to the music of the church. This volume represents Proulx’s body of work for congregations in the form of hymn tunes and hymn arrangements. Descants and alternate harmonizations make this resource especially attractive for inclusion in choral libraries! As Russell Schulz-Widmar states in his foreword, “In hymn singing, quality works and inspiration counts. Clearly Richard Proulx believes this and he proves it true.†Hymns ALDINE - CAMANO - CASTLEWOOD - CENTRAL CHURCH - DEO GRACIAS - FIAT LUX - HUDSON STREET - JERUZALEM, GIJ SCHONE STAD - MA YEDIDUT - MANDATUM - MANNION - MANY NAMES - MASQUERAY - MAXWELL - MEDINA - NEW FOUNDATION - PARENTI - PECAN STREET - PENTON - PERSELL - RUSSWIN - SLINGE - THOUGH WE ARE MANY - TORAH SONG - UBI CARITAS - ULENBERG -.

A delightful arrangement of a classic Advent text from the 9th-century, this gently flowing piece begins with a statement of the melody coupled by a simple arpeggiated accompaniment. The undulating rhythm is broken mid-piece by a more chordal harmonic movement that reflects the reverence and magnitude of the text, “At your great name, O Jesus, now all knees must bend, all hearts must bow.†It ends as it began with a strong restatement of the opening accompaniment.

This Latin hymn setting introduces contrapuntal singing of chant. It is scored for SATB choir, but can be adapted for two-part voices (mixed, treble, or bass choirs), as well as for SAB choirs by moving between treble or bass voice parts as needed. Attende Domine works well with the hymnals of GIA and WLP, enabling the assembly to join on the refrain. The piece can be sung by the choir as a prelude or during the Preparation of the Gifts. If used for the Entrance Chart during Lent, the Greek Kyrie chant could follow as part of the Penitential Act.
