The English conductor and composer Howard Arman has presented us with a completed version of Mozart’s Requiem. “Another one?†you might ask, since this publication is only the latest in a long line reaching back to the traditional Süßmayr version. Yet such is the enormous power of Mozart’s score that the challenge and appeal of completing it remain undiminished. After two decades of intensive study, Howard Arman’s additions to Mozart’s great original show the requisite care and respect while incorporating many new insights.Arman’s approach is particularly fruitful. Always aware of the appropriate limits to such re-creative work, he orients himself towards the typical characteristics of Mozart’s brilliant composing style: The masterly compositional technique, the search for innovative solutions to every problem, and even the terse treatment of the text with extremely suggestive harmonies. All of this leads to a number of new listening experiences. In the Tuba mirum, for example, we enjoy a warm, cohesive ensemble sound, supported by the bassoons, which depart from the bass line. The Confutatis presents a quite different picture: Even the basset horns are drawn down into the infernal depths. This effect is reinforced by the independence of the trombones; rather than simply following the choral parts, the instrument’s unique sound is given an opportunity to shine. Arman’s Lacrimosa achieves a lively Mozartian feel by granting the voices considerable freedom rather than following a rigid pattern. And he concludes the movement with a fugal Amen, whereby the focus is not so much on the counterpoint itself, but rather – in the spirit of Mozart – on creating a sense of drama and illuminating the theme in all its possible facets. Mozart’s fragment ends with the Hostias, and so does Arman’s completion. For the four following movements (Sanctus to Communio) we have nothing from Mozart, and so here, where the master is silent, Arman finally returns to Süßmayr, the man who was closest to Mozart at the time of his death and whose efforts to fill the blank manuscripts still garner our respect today.Arman’s version has already proven its practical value. The premiere with the Bavarian Radio Choir was enthusiastically received by audiences and press alike – and celebrated as offering a scholarly, entirely fresh perspective on Mozart’s masterpiece.- World premiere by the Bavarian Radio Choir- Enthusiastically received by audience and press.

The final movement of the Sonata in A major KV 331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Rondo Alla Turca, is one of the most famous pianopieces of all time. Once only familiar to musical experts, later a universal piece for all piano pupils, its opening melody is now even omnipresent as an alienated sinus tone-like mobile phone ring tone. Fazil Say's arrangement, originally created as an effective encore, follows on from this popularity. After the first eight bars havebeen presented in original form, typical elements of jazz superimposed on the still recognisable classical foundations can be discovered, such as syncopation of the top notes and ornamentation through chromatic blue notes, embedded in the at times frenzied chains of semiquavers. In the spirit of the work's improvisatory character, Say likes to perfom his Alla Turca Jazz in different combinations, for example accompanied by jazz singers of with orchestra. It may appear strange that Fazil Say, who was born in Turkey and - when not on tour - is still resident in that country, does not bring back Mozart's interpretation of genuine Turkish music closer to its own roots, particularly as many of his compositions such as Black Earth or the Violin Sonata are characterised by a subtle amalgamation of the Classical-Romantic tradition, Turkish folk music and elements of jazz. In a further Mozart arrangement, the ballet music Patara premiered in Vienna in 2006, composed on the basis of the Rococo-like theme from the first movement of the same A-major Sonata (wich enjoys almost as great popularity as the Alla Turca theme), Say utilised the connection which was absent in Alla Turca, albeit in the opposite direction. In the ballet music, the piano symbolises Western culture and the Ney flute Oriental culture, communcated atmosperically by austere percussion instrumentation and soprano vocalisation.

A good six years following its first performance in Milan (1773) a second version of Exsultate, jubilate was completed for a performance on Trinity Sunday in 1779. It has survived in a manuscript from Salzburg. This Salzburg version, which was discovered in 1978, differs from the Milan version primarily through the use of flutes instead of oboes and also through the use of two different texts for the first aria. In the first version the text refers to Christmas, whereas in the second version it refers to the festival of Trinity. Mozart's autograph of the Milan version had been thought to be missing since the second world war and it has only been accessible in the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Krakow for a little over a decade. The present new critical edition by Wolfgang Hochstein is the first which could be based on both versions. Score available separately - see item CA.4076700.

With the new edition of the G-minor Symphony, a vital work group in Mozart's oeuvre is now complete: the three late symphonies K. 543, 550 and 551, now available in Urtext editions. As in his new edition of the Hafner Symphony, Henrik Wiese uncovers in the present Breitkopf Urtext score three different stages in the genesis of the G-minor Symphony. Mozart initially wrote the work without clarinets (1st stage), and then he added the clarinets (2nd stage). Not until a final stage did he change the wind instrumentation in the Andante (3rd stage). Mozart thus returned to the 1st version again after completing the 2nd version (with clarinets). This advances the importance of the 1st version without clarinets as Fassung letzter Hand. A compelling insight which sheds new light on the famous G-minor Symphony. Both versions are of equal value and can now be compared with one another, studied and, above all, performed for the first time ever thanks to the new score and parts.Another extremly practical aspect that should be noted: the orchestral parts offer solutions for all the problematic page turns for the first time ever (please see the sample pages of OB 5542 - Violin II.),,... the musical text is fine. This is a valuable improvement. (Clifford Bartlett, Early Music Review)3 Work Stages, 2 Versions, 1 Edition.

As most of my instrumental pieces, Joyce is also based on a literary source. My first string quartet (Korrespondenz) transferred thecorrespondence between Leopold and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at times word by word, to the world of music, whose strong dramatic character effectively reflects the conflicts between father and son. I found the closest literary references to my second string quartet, which takes its listeners to the world of Odysseus and the sirens, in the works of Joyce, Homer and Kafka. The string quartet is enriched with an additional soprano part, which tells the classic story from three different perspectives. The complete title of my second string quartet is The Sirens Cycle, consisting of three movements: Joyce - Homer - Kafka. The twenty-minute-long duration of the first movement of the cycle Joyce allows it to be performed independently. This time, the vocal part accompanied by the strings is replaced by a solo clarinet, which - instead of giving a verbal account of Chapter 11 of Joyce's Ulysses - renders the quite masculine protagonist, Leopold Blooms musing over the attractive barmaids with befittingly vigorous musical gestures. Joyce for clarinet and string quartet immerses in James Joyces unique world and typical imaginative word creations, placing them into the world of musical composition. Peter Eotvos.

This is a unique arrangement for string quartet, a work that preserves the beauty of the original work, an icon for sacred music, but at the same time different in essence due to the creative and innovative flavour that was introduced in orchestration on this occasion. The piece has been carefully adapted to suit the technical needs of each instrument, being a smart choice for quartets that want to achieve the acclaim from the audience. This piece of music is suitable both for concerts given by professionals and for auditions in schools, colleges, conservatories or can be used in various other private events.

Mozart's Flute Concerto K. 314 (285d) was most likely derived from the Oboe Concerto K. 314 (271k). The decisive impulse for the arrangement was presumably provided by a commission from the Dutch flutist Ferdinand Dejean in 1778. Any new edition inevitably has to take a very cautious approach, as the source transmission is thin: only copies dating from the 1790s have survived for both versions, and these copies clearly differ from one another. Moreover, it is nowhere confirmed that Mozart actually prepared the flute version himself. Henrik Wiese has worked intensively with Mozart's flute compositions as an interpreter and musicologist, and now presents following his new edition of the Concerto K. 313 the second solo concerto in an Urtext edition. He has once again supplied his own cadenzas.Gut ein Dutzend Ausgaben dieses Konzerts durfen derzeit erhaltlich sein, doch diese hier ist etwas besonderes. (Ursula Pesek, Das Orchester).

The volume G of the popular Colourstrings violin tutors by Géza Szilvay studies every position of the violin in a separate volume: G1 the second position, G2 the third position, G3 the fourth position, G4 the fifth position and the last one, G5, the high positions (sixth and seventh). These books form an all-embracing, rich collection of shifting exercises, position playing studies, excerpts from the literature, chamber music (mainly duos), and performing pieces, piano accompaniment offered as a separate publication (Books G1, G2 & G2 supplement 9790550116467; Books G3 & G4 9790550116931 and Book G5 9790550116948).The extensive Book G5 - Sixth and Seventh Position (9790550116948) follows the key principles of Colourstrings methodology - the use of natural harmonics and constant developing of inner hearing for instance - but it can be fully utilized also without any previous use or knowledge about the Colourstrings method. The innovative and unique visual presentation of the “house of the positions and preparatory exercises for the challenging passages help the young and older students to fully understand, why and where the different positions are needed. With the Symphony K. 112, Cliff Eisen, Professor at the renowned Kings College and one of the leading Mozart specialists of the younger generation, continues the series of new editions of Mozarts orchestral works which began with the Prague Symphony. Here too, the editorial principles follow the guidelines of Urtext. In his work, he takes particular care in bringing his expert knowledge of contemporary performance practice into play when evaluating authentic part material. Eisen comes to surprising conclusions in a number of cases. At the very least, the Symphony K. 112 will sound different in these passages with the new material.
