I met for the first time the refined Finnish composer Kai Nieminen in Milan (Italy), although we had been in touch for a while before. It was that very trip which provided the inspiration for this composition dedicated to Bruno Munari, one of the most renowned XXI century Italian artists, who lived and worked in Milan. In particular, the work that inspired this composition, displayed at Museo del Novecento in Milan and characterised by swirling lines enveloping torn-out music scores, suggested the mysterious atmosphere of this piece and the subheading Un telegramma dal paese dei sogni (A telegram from dreamland).
The composition can be divided into four sections and displays a wide variety of harmonics, cleverly enhancing the polyphonic resources of the guitar.
The very first bars introduce the main themes of the composition: particularly, at bar 7 it is possible to recognize a Bach quote from Das wohltemperierte Clavier (II book, ndeg24) recurring frequently in the piece and appearing also in the painting.
Meno mosso (bar 51) opens with a ghostly song accompanied by drum-like effects that recall the primitive sound of the shamanic Finnish drum.
Fast sixteenth cascades dotted by harmonic sounds open the fourth and last section at bar 66 (Capriccioso, movendo), alluding to a mysterious telegram sent from another dimension.

Adventure Land was commissioned by Clermont Communauté and the CREA (the directors of the local music schools and conservatories) in France. This work was the opening piece of a show combining orchestra, choir and actors. The story takes place in the city of Clermont-Ferrand, which an explorer discovers through a series of riddles and adventures. Adventure Land is written in the form of a symphonic march which features a slow and pleasant passage in the middle of the work. The result is a dynamic and playful piece, similar to the style that one might find in cartoons or in animated films.

Adventure Land werd gecomponeerd in opdracht van de Clermont Communauté en de CREA (de leiders van de lokale muziekscholen en het plaatselijke conservatorium) in Frankrijk. Dit stuk was het openingswerk van een show waarin orkest, koor en acteurs zich verenigden. Het verhaal vindt plaats in de stad Clermont-Ferrand, die door een avonturier wordt ontdekt door middel van een reeks raadsels en belevenissen. Adventure Land is geschreven in de vorm van een symfonische mars met een langzame, fraaie passage in het midden. Het resultaat is een dynamisch, speels werk in een stijl die doet denken aan teken- en animatiefilms.

Adventure Land wurde vom Gemeindeverband Clermont (F) und der CREA (Direktoren der lokalen Musikschulen und Konservatorien) in Auftrag gegeben. Dieses Werk war das Eröffnungsstück für eine Show mit Orchester, Chor und Schauspielern. Die Geschichte spielt in Clermont-Ferrand, wo ein Abenteurer die Stadt durch Rätsel und Abenteuer entdeckt. Adventure Land ist in Form eines sinfonischen Marschs komponiert und zeichnet sich durch eine langsame und hübsche Passage im Mittelteil aus. Das Ergebnis ist ein dynamisches und verspieltes Stück in einem Stil, den man auch in Comics oder Zeichentrick- und Kinofilmen finden könnte.

Adventure Land est une œuvre commandée par Clermont Communauté et le CREA (l’ensemble des directeurs des écoles de musique et du conservatoire locaux). Cette pièce a servi d’ouverture un spectacle alliant orchestre, chœur et comédiens. L’histoire se déroule Clermont-Ferrand où un aventurier découvre la ville travers des énigmes et péripéties. Adventure Land est écrit sous forme de marche symphonique laquelle un passage lent et chaleureux a été ajouté au milieu de l’œuvre. Il en résulte une pièce dynamique et enjouée, dans un style que l’on retrouve dans les dessins animés, les films d’animation ou au cinéma.
