With an expansive representation of musical styles from all eras, this series addresses the need for a single collection of quality educational materials to foster musical development and instill appreciation of the richness and diversity of music written for cello. Supporting a balanced course of study, this series organizes repertoire into nine volumes from the Preparatory Level through Level 8. Each level offers music from a range of styles and compositional eras, including standard literature, new arrangements of familiar tunes, and music written for cellists, by cellists. The sky creates a dazzling display of yellows, oranges, and reds, before turning a calm blue, then purple, and finally black. Such sunsets inspired Jan de Haan to write this piece for solo flugelhorn and brass band. It is dedicated to his daughter, Hermanda.

Zonsondergang. De zon verdwijnt langzaam aan de westelijke horizon. De hemel is in rode en oranje kleuren getooid... Deze prachtige aanblik was de inspiratie voor dit ontroerende solowerk voor bugel en brassband. (ook verkrijgbaarvoor hobo en harmonieorkest of bugel en fanfareorkest). Jan de Haan schreef het in de herfst van 2008 en droeg het op aan zijn dochter Hermanda.

Sonnenuntergang: Die Sonne verschwindet langsam am westlichen Horizont. Der Himmel ist in Rot- und Orangetöne getaucht. Dieser oft erlebte, aber immer wieder aufs Neue prachtvolle Anblick bildete die Quelle der Inspiration für ein ruhiges, aber intensives und damit sehr eindrucksvolles Solowerk für Flügelhorn und Brass Band, das Jan de Haan im Herbst 2008 seiner Tochter Hermanda widmete.

Il tramonto del sole ispira da sempre pittori, fotografi , scrittori, poeti e anche compositori. Jan de Haan si è lasciato sedurre da questo istante meraviglioso, quando il cielo inventa infinite sfumature di arancio e rosso, su uno sfondo appena visibile di azzurro. Spettacolo grandioso che si ripete da sempre, ma che non finisce mai di stupire. In Sweet Sunset il ruolo principale è affi dato al flicorno.

This piece is dedicated to all the citizens who live, have lived, and will live in the US town of Algona, who commissioned the work to celebrate it’s 150th anniversary. With dark-tinted tones (low drums, heavy brass), this overture begins with a primitive sacred feel, it seems as if centuries-old Indian singing is heard once more. Gradually the sound becomes clearer and brighter as the same theme travels throughout the band in various guises and variants. Imposing tutti passages then give the band the chance to lavishly shine. This bright and catchy overture radiates spontaneous energy and as it features every section of the band all the players as well as the listenersare continually surprised and captivated.

Met donkere tonen begint deze ouverture sacraal en bezwerend: het lijkt of eeuwenoude indianengezangen weer tot klinken komen. Geleidelijk wordt het klankbeeld helderder: hetzelfde thema maakt in diverse varianten als het ware eenronde door het orkest. Met een paar imposante tuttipassages kan het orkest goed uitpakken. Nadien komt een energiek allegro met een krachtige thematiek naar voren, gevolgd door een lyrisch gegeven. Deze ingrediënten wisselen elkaaraf op weg naar een opwindende finale. Het klankidioom is zeer toegankelijk en alle geledingen van het orkest komen aan bod!

Anlässlich der 150-Jahrfeier der Stadt Algona im US-Staat Iowa komponiert, strahlt diese klare, eingängige Ouvertüre spontane Energie aus. Zwar beginnt das Werk sakral und flehend mit dunkel gefärbten Tönen, doch allmählich wird der Klang klarer und heller, während das Thema in verschiedenen Gewändern und Varianten durch das Blasorchester wandert. Dem folgenden energischen Allegro folgt ein lyrisches Thema, und beide Elemente verschmelzen schließlich in einem aufregenden Finale. Alle Register des Blasorchesters werden hier beleuchtet, sodass sowohl Spieler als auch Zuhörer fortwährend überrascht und bezaubert werden.

Algona Overture s’ouvre dans un univers sonore aux couleurs sombres. La musique revêt une dimension sacrée, un esprit de supplication. Un chant indien vieux de plusieurs siècles résonne comme un chant oublié. D’imposants passages tutti dévoilent les somptueuses facettes de l’Orchestre d’Harmonie. L’idiome sonore est simple et accessible. Algona Overture est une composition lumineuse et fascinante qui respire l’enthousiasme et la spontanéité. Dans la mesure où l’écriture orchestrale privilégie tous les pupitres, la musique réussit surprendre et captiver sans cesse le public et les interprètes.

Questo brano è dedicato a tutti i cittadini che vivono, che hanno vissuto, e che vivranno nella cittadina americana di Algona, che ha commissionato questo brano per festeggiare il suo 150. anniversario. Pandora appears in Greek mythology the first woman, created by the gods and sent to earth as an evil addition to the human race. ‘Pan’ means ‘all’ and ‘dora’ means ‘gifted’. Pandora’s Box must by no means be opened. The various stories surrounding this box inspired Yagisawa to write this dramatic piece, an addition to his series of pieces based on Greek mythology, such as Perseus.

Pandora is een figuur uit de Griekse mythologie. Het is de eerste vrouw die de goden naar de aarde zonden. Ze kreeg een doos mee. Oppergod Zeus had de sleutel erbij gegeven en tegen Pandora gezegd dat ze de doos nooit moest openen als ze gelukkig wilde leven. Toch won de nieuwsgierigheid het en Pandora opende de doos. In een klap kwamen daar alle tegenslagen en onheil uit die een mens maar kunnen treffen. De verschillende verhalen rond deze doos inspireerden Yagisawa tot het schrijven van dit dramatische stuk. Het is een aanvulling op zijn reeks werken waarbij hij zich eveneens baseerde op de Griekse mythologie, zoals Perseus.

Pandora erscheint in der griechischen Mythologie als erste Frau, die von den Göttern erschaffen und als böse Ergänzung der Menschheit auf die Erde geschickt wurde. Pan“ bedeutet all-, gesamt“ und dora“ steht für begabt“. Die Büchse der Pandora sollte auf gar keinen Fall geöffnet werden. Die verschiedenen Geschichten um diese Büchse lieferten Yagisawa die Inspiration für das dramatische Stück als Ergänzung seiner Serie an Werken, die auf der griechischen Mythologie basieren, wie zum Beispiel Perseus.

La boîte de Pandore ne doit absolument pas être ouverte ! Les histoires racontées au sujet de cette boîte ont inspiré Satoshi Yagisawa écrire cette oeuvre dramatique, un ajout sa série d’oeuvres basées sur la mythologie grecque.
