| Christmas Prophecy [Score] Deutscher Verlag für Musik
Voice(s) with various inst. SKU: BR.DV-9515-01 The people that walked ...(+)
Voice(s) with various inst. SKU: BR.DV-9515-01 The people that walked in darkness. Composed by Johann Georg Reichard. Edited by Wolfram Steude. Voice; stapled. Deutscher Verlag. Baroque period. Full Score. 24 pages. Deutscher Verlag fur Musik #DV 9515-01. Published by Deutscher Verlag fur Musik (BR.DV-9515-01). ISBN 9790200490596. 9 x 12 inches. German / English. In the latter half of the 18th and in the 19th century the Old Preface Testament Christmas prophecy (Isaiah 9, 1-6) formed the basis for numerous motetto- and cantata-like compositions originating from the Erzgebirge and the Vogtland of Saxony. From very early times, this text was included in Matins for Christmas day, hut until the period specified it was usually intoned on a reciting note. The present cantata is one of the few surviving testimonies to musical activity in the small Thuringian town of Schleiz. The prophecy Das Volk, so im Finstern wandelt was written - probably for performance at court services - in all likelihood by Johann Georg Reichard, a magistrate in the Grafschaft (County) of Reuss who later held higher judicial appointments. Reichard was born at Oels (Olefoica) in Silesia in 1710 and studied law at Leipzig from 1732. He then went to Schleiz and rose from the position of archivist to high legal office, at the same time succeeding Gottfried Siegmund Liebich (d. 1736) as director of the court chapel. He died in Schleiz on 2 June 1782. A few of his church cantatas and other pieces (serenades etc) written for the court at Schleiz once belonged to the Fursten- and Landesschule of St Augustine at Grimma whose music holdings are now preserved in Dresden. Some of Reichard's compositions are autograph, some in copies made by his son Heinrich Gottfried Reichard (1742-1801) who pursued an active career at Grimma both in music and ancient philology, first as cantor, finally as co-rector. The 'Prophecy' cantata survives anonymously in a score copied by Heinrich Gottfried Reichard who may well have sung it himself when he was fourteen, before bis voice broke - as the date Anno 17 56 suggests. He probably prepared the score in bis later years from the original parts, now no langer existent, as he did in the case of other works of his father's. Whether he revised the musical text, and to what extent, cannot now be established. This short and attractive work has all the lightness and exuberance of the rococo as well as genuine emotional depth. In addition, it is easy to perform and should prove very popular. Liturgically, it still occupies a place in Christmas matins or vespers. Permission for this publication was kindly given by Dr. Wolfgang Reich of the Sachsische Landesbibliothek Dresden, Musikabteilung. Concert band (ST KPL) - intermediate SKU: HL.49012046 From the Oratorio Saul. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by Norbert Studnitzky. This edition: Folding. Sheet music. Schott Harmonie Serie (Concert Band). Classical. Set of Parts. Duration 13'. Schott Music #SHS 1006-70. Published by Schott Music (HL.49012046). ISBN 9790001100793. 8.25x11.75x0.692 inches. Handel's Oralorio Saul, composed in 1739, contains a series of instrumental movements which provide commentary on the action. Composers have often written works in the form of suites from these movements. Handel's blocks of polyphonic music are also particularly suitable for wind band. His orchestral suites were usually performed in Ihe open air. Many of his themes rank among the great inventions of musical history. They give his music dignity and greatness and at the same time they remain popular in character. The instrumental movements from 'Saul' are suitable for concerts, including those in churches, for serenades and for contests from intermediate to advanced level.

Breitkopf and Haertel #SON 605. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-605). ISBN 9790004802472. 10 x 12.5 inches. Sibelius secured his international reputation as a 20th-century classic above all with his large orchestral works. However, his vocal works, including the songs for voice and orchestra, are just as important and innovative. They combine Sibelius's masterful command of the orchestral apparatus with a uniquely sensitive feeling for the textual sources. They range from the dramatic ballad Koskenlaskijan morsiamet Op. 33 to the intimate, lyrical Arioso Op. 3, and from the post-Wagnerian Serenad JS 183 (presented here for the first time) to the boldly orchestrated vision Luonnotar Op. 70. Following the two books of songs with piano accompaniment, this volume of the Sibelius Complete Edition (JSW) will definitely make an important contribution to the international reception of Sibelius' works. $434.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Flute & String Quartet SKU: SU.27060280 For Flute & String Quartet...(+)
Flute & String Quartet SKU: SU.27060280 For Flute & String Quartet. Composed by Mark Carlson. Chamber Music, String Trio/Quartet/Quintet, Woodwinds, Flute/Piccolo, Chamber Music, Mixed Ensemble. Score & Parts. Subito Music Corporation #27060280. Published by Subito Music Corporation (SU.27060280). Six Bagatelles is a set of whimsical character pieces which, in my own composer’s perception, provided balance to some of the heavier works I had written over the previous several years. The first movement, Humming, not only hums along like a well-tuned engine, but it also evokes a melody that someone might actually hum. Let Evening Come is an arrangement of a song, for baritone or mezzo-soprano, flute, and piano, on Jane Kenyon’s poem of the same name—part of a cycle from 1994 called Night Will Blossom. The title Melancholy speaks for itself, as does that of the fifth movement, Solace. Skirmish started out as a march, but when changes of meter emerged in the composing of the piece, I realized it was no longer marchable, though still martial in character. The final movement is a Mosaic in two senses: the accompaniment in the strings in the outer sections of the piece is made up of small bits of material, combining to create an overall texture; and its middle section is made up of fragments of material heard in earlier movements. —Mark Carlson Flute & String Quartet Composed: 1995 Published by: Pacific Serenades. $50.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Published by Carus Verlag (CA.336550). ISBN 9790007244026. Language: Spanish. Text: Gonzalez, Felipe. This original work for equal voices from the composer Guido Lopez Gavilan is a virtuoso composition, full of humor and lyricism. The composer uses onomatopoeic sounds that imitate the guitar and the mandolin, inst ruments that always accompany serenades and love songs. The poem describes a bucolic landscape and the verses alternate with vocal-instrumental interludes which help to build to an extraordinary sonic climax. The colorful harmonies are reminiscent of the impressionist language. $4.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Voice, piano SKU: BR.SON-606 Lieder mit Klavierbegleitung ohne Opuszahl. Composed by Jean Sibelius. Edited by Jukka Tilikainen. Linen. Complete Works. Late-romantic; Early modern. Complete Works. 256 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #SON 606. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-606). ISBN 9790004802564. 9 x 12 inches. Jean Sibelius overall composed more than 100 solo songs for voice and piano. Volume 4 mostly contains first editions. These songs were generally unknown. Only a few of them have been available for performers in manuscript copies and have also appeared on concert programs. The volume contains also the first printed Sibelius' work Serenad and in contrast to the other two volumes with solo-songs it contains arrangements for voice and piano for the first time. Sibelius arranged three types of works for voice and piano: songs from incidental music, works for voice and piano, and one choral work. The arrangements were not made for the purpose of producing rehearsal scores, but rather as genuine concert pieces to be used in recitals. Rarely are such arrangements simply reductions of the orchestral score, as rehearsal scores tend to be. Instead, Sibelius gave the piano parts of his arrangements the same dedication and seriousness as he gave his solo songs. The independance of his arrangements is especially pointed to the very virtuoso piano part of the ballad Koskenlaskijan morsiamet Op. 33. $334.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Stilistisch ganz dem romantischen Geist ihrer Zeit verhaftet, handelt es sich um relativ kurze Stucke. Schott Music #CB247. Published by Schott Music (HL.49019267). ISBN 9790001180689. UPC: 841886018143. 9.0x12.0x0.074 inches. Edited with fingerings and bowings by Fritz Zumkley. Goltermann (1824-1898) left a plethora of works for his instrument, including seven cello concertos which sometimes go to the limitsof what was considered to be technically playable in his time. Even today, these works have maintained their importance throughout the methodological progress in literature. Apart from the concertos, Goltermann also composed a large number of character pieces, including romances, reveries, nocturnes and serenades. Stylistically wholly rooted in the Romantic spirit of their time, the pieces are relatively short and of medium difficulty as regards the technical demands. It is not least due to their melodic and harmonic catchiness that they enjoy a lasting popularity both in music lessons and in domestic concerts. $13.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Chamber orchestra SKU: FG.55011-647-4 Composed by Harri Wessman. Score & parts. Fennica Gehrman #55011-647-4. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-647-4). ISBN 9790550116474. Harri Wessman's Capriccio for wind ensemble (1989) puts the idea of caprice into practice in various ways. The inspiration for the title comes from the definition of 'capriccio' given by Michael Praetorius (1571-1621): If one attempts to treat a fugue according to his own pleasure and desire, and does not persist long in this, but rather turns soon to another fugue as it come to mind or occurs to him. The ten-minute-long work in three movements is scored for the same instruments as Mozart's Serenades for winds: 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, contrabassoon and 2 French horns. The outer movements are extremely folk-musicianly and must be played in a way that makes them brashly temperamental. They are separated by an Andantino, as a cor anglais and oboe dream unfolded on the velvety carpet of the other instruments. It was commissioned and premiered by the wind players of Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in April 1989. $51.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
