The piece opens with a plaintive Irish style flute solo then moves seamlessly to the fast-paced section loosely based around the Appalachian fiddle tune ?Glory in the Meeting House? introduced by the bodhran (Irish frame drum). Originally recorded by Nina Simone on her 1965 album I Put A Spell On You Feeling Good instantly became a standard and has since been recorded by many artists including Muse Michael Buble Sammy Davis Junior George Michael and The Pussycat Dolls.The song was originally composed by Anthony Newlie and Leslie Bricusse for a 1964 musical sung by Gilbert Price. After the inimitable Nina Simone recorded an incredible version for her album a huge number of cover versions followed with Muse's attempt being voted the greatest cover of all time by the NME. We still prefer Nina's version though with the powerful emotion that her vocal performances are known for being unmatched by any artist before or since.    This new arrangement of Feeling Good by Christopher Hussey for SATB A Cappella sounds just great injecting a new and fresh take on the classic through the four-part harmonies. Muse of the Missouri takes its title from a magnificent fountain located at 8th and Main in Kansas City but as the composer writes the piece is really more about the city and its surroundings. It begins gently with an evocation of the Missouri River and then unfolds as something of a journey through a landscape. Written for Michael Stern and the KC Symphony the work employs full orchestra with banjo.

A newspaper report a few days later declared that it combined ???the Sublime the Grand and the Tender???. Its success has remained undiminished ever since and the ???Messiah??? has taken its place in musical life.In 2009 to mark the 250th anniversary of Handel???s death the British Library and B?renreiter joined forces and made the autograph score of the ???Messiah??? available to the public in a meticulously reproduced lavishly published facsimile.The renowned Handel scholar Donald Burrows introduces the characteristics of Handel???smanuscript describes the history of the work???s composition and explains the differences between later versions of the ???Messiah??? as reflected in the conducting scores. Based on the folk song While History’s Muse (subtitled Air: Paddy Whack) this delightful arrangement in 3/4 has all the characteristics of a lighthearted Irish dance. A tambourine and clarinet drone set the stage for the flute melody that is eventually passed throughout the ensemble. A key change to E= builds until the piece returns to the lighthearted style of the opening one last time. Great writing for young bands! (1:55)
