The first edition of a Missa in F by Giovanni Platti (ca. 1690-1763) is a rarity. Platti served at the Court of the Counts of Schonborn-Wiesentheid, and during his more than 40 years of service at the Court he worked for more than five masters and each of them knew how to make use of his musical abilities. Thus, in addition to his position as a virtuoso oboist, singer and violinist, he was also entrusted with the musical education of musicians. The Missa in F major is primarily a composition for choir; it is very singable, its construction is transparent and it is accompanied by only four strings and an organ. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4067700.

The cantata Sie werden euch in den Bann tun [They will banish you] BWV 183 for Exaudi Sunday is one of the cantatas composed on texts by the Leipzig poetess Christiane Mariane von Ziegler with which Bach concluded his second annual cycle of cantatas after he had abandoned the annual cycle of chorale cantatas at Easter 1725. The cantata opens with Jesus's words from the Sunday gospel reading in an accompagnato recitative for bass - representing the vox Christi - accompanied by four oboes which, together with the strings, are also deployed in the cantata's second accompagnato recitative. The first of the virtuoso arias is accompanied by violoncello piccolo, the second by two oboes da caccia together with the string ensemble. The cantata concludes with an unusually animated final chorale. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3118300.

The publishers Henle and Breitkopf & Hartel are continuing their collaboration, now with Brahms, by publishing the performance material of the double concerto. Brahms's last work with orchestra was published in the new Brahms Complete Edition in 2002, whereby the editor was able to base himself on newly accessible sources. Of particular interest are the additional performance instructions for the solo violin and solo cello, which were gathered from the first edition of the solo parts. These indications were supplied by the soloists of the first performance, Joseph Joachim and Robert Hausmann. No doubt authorized by Brahms, they communicate valuable insights into the performance practice of the time. The new material also contains a part in which the solo violin and cello are notated one above the other. The trio edition for violin, violoncello and piano (EB 6040), which was made by Brahms himself, has proven itself for chamber performances; it continues to be available. The full score is a conductor's dream: big, bold, and beautifully laid out on glare-free bluff paper. The cantata Nur jedem das Seine (Do justice to all men) BWV 163, for the last Sunday of the Church Year 1714/15, belongs among to those chamber music works which Bach composed for the Weimar Schlosskirche. The instruments are limited to strings, although two obbligato violoncellos are included which together with the solo bass singer and the continuo form a bass quartet unique in Bach's works. The final chorale of the cantata is handed down only as a fragment and was newly reconstructed for our edition by Thomas Riegler. Score available separately - see item CA.3116300.
