Beethoven described his Missa solemnis as his greatest work several times, a work which, coming from the heart, was to touch and move audiences. The surviving sources enable us to recognize how intensively and how long he worked on the composition in order to give what he felt was adequate expression to the text. In its length and musical demands, the Missa solemnis goes far beyond typical liturgical settings, and the premiere took place, for good reason, in a concert hall. The chorus plays a key structural role in the work, and in the process has to master some extremely demanding sections. The leading Beethoven expert Ernst Herttrich has produced an Urtext edition based on the available sources, and reflecting the latest state of scholarship. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4068900.

ZOLTÁN KODÁLY (1882-1967) created a significant oeuvre equally as a composer, pedagogue, and ethnomusicologist; he was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Hungarian music. With his over 130 works for unaccompanied choir he laid the foundation of modern Hungarian choral literature. A complete collection of Kodály's choral works is available in three volumes: Choral Works for Children's and Female Voices (Z. 6724) Choral Works for Mixed Voices (Z. 6725) Choral Works for Male Voices (Z. 6726 This volume of works for children's and female voices is an extended and revised edition. Containing a total of 59 compositions, three of which were not included in earlier editions, it is the most complete and most authentic edition of Kodály's choral works for children's and female voices to be published thus far. It has been edited based on uniform principles, contains easy-to-read, first-rate musical scores, and includes an informative Epilogue. The volume is available both in paperback and clothbound.

Composed between December 2014 and November 2015, Moving On developed from an initial short concert piece, written at the request of the piano duo Lauryna Sableviciute and Nicholas Ashton, into a larger work of several related movements reflecting different types of forward motion. Some wander, with no sense of hurry; others - such as fast forward, a kind of frantic boogie-woogie that might accompany a short, speeded-up film of an old American railroad train - dash or are fleeting. As the composer admits, a future destination of Moving On might well be a piece with filmaEUR|.

While serving as music director of Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra (1962-65), Jones was commissioned for a work to commemorate the 35th anniversary of that organization. The result was Overture for a City, which was premiered by SBSO in October, 1964. Today, fifty years later, the World Doctors Orchestra, an organization of physician/musicians from all over the world, is making its West Coast debut. The WDO traditionally chooses a work by a composer native to the country in which they perform, and for this Seattle concert they chose Sam Jones and his Overture for a City.
