Common Worship for the celebration of Holy Communion introduces a Gospel Acclamation to be sung before the reading of the Gospel. In this collection of Acclamations there is a common Alleluia setting (or Praise toYou O Christ from Ash Wednesday to Maundy Thursday) followed by the proper text for singing by the choir.

Nico Muhly's Marrow composed for SATB choir unaccompanied with texts from Psalm 63 vv.1–3 6–8 Book of Common Prayer (1662). Commissioned by the Netherlands Chamber Choir for the project 150 Psalms to be premiered by the Tallis Scholars during Utrecht Early Music Festival September 1st 2017. Duration: c. 3 minutes. 'Last September in one weekend in Utrecht settings were sung of all 150 Psalms by 150 different composers covering 1000 years of choral music. The Tallis Scholars were one of the four choirs taking part and among their contributions was this new piece by Nico Muhly. The words are from the Book ofCommon Prayer version of Psalm 63 with the title teasingly taking one word from ‘My soul shall be satisfied even as it were with marrow and fatness.’ Cries of ‘O God’ provide a fluid background to an almost plainchant-like proclamation of the text at start and finish with other voices gradually joining the psalm text in the central section until all unite on ‘when my mouth praiseth thee with joyful lips’. For a choir happy to subdivide into 4S 2A 2T and 2B it is a setting of imagination and beauty.' - Sunday by Sunday

As 'Quotations' evolved he found that these sayings evoked nostalgic momories of his own childhood in Richmond Hill New York where he was reared on such aphorisms as 'theearly bird catches the worm ' 'a stitch in time saves nine ' 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.'After setting the scene in Richmond Hill the piece begins with Hallelujah Amen the common shout for joy and closing whisper of all religions. An antiphonal series of platitudes follows and then moves to more complex secular litanies the 'ballads ' or stories of young love and old age and the precariousness of life which have been told and retold through the ages. In the last movement the religious litany resumes with 'ashes to ashes dust to dust' echoing the earlier prosaic motif 'here today gone tomorrow ' or as Gould finally writes 'time's up!'

Book of Common Prayer 1662-This work was composed in 2001 and first performed at matins on 3rd February 2002 at the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula HM Tower of London by the Choir of the Chapels Royal. It is a truly beautiful setting of text from the Book of Common Prayer from 1662. Arranged for SATb choir with Organ accompaniment.

Another wonderful sacred composition by the gifted choral composer Tarik O'Regan. A complete original nmusical setting of the Corpus Christi Service and the Celebration of Holy Communion as laid out in Order One of Common Worship: Services and Prayers for the Church of England. As liturgical flexibility is one of the key issues of Common Worship O’Regan has attempted to provide as many and as varied permutations as possible and that the Minister might choose the most appropriate. POD-James Whitbourn's Agnus Dei From Missa Carolae. Missa Carolae was commissioned by Rochester Cathedral the second oldest cathedral in England to mark the 1400th anniversary ofits foundation. It was first performed there on 24 December 2004 by the Rochester Cathedral Choirs Andy Findon (Fife) the Locke Brass Consort Edmund Aldhouse (Organ) Joby Burgess and Catherine Ring (Percussion) directed byRoger Sayer. The work is intended to invoke a dance-like spirit which is true to the origin of the carol as a simple dance form. The choir parts should be very well-known so that the singers can sing with the whole oftheir bodies and not just their voices. This version is a reduced scoring for SATB (unchanged) with Organ and optional Piccolo and also acts as the vocal score to the full version. In this scoring the Piccolo adds to theeffectiveness of the piece. In either scoring the Piccolo may be replaced with a Flute Fife or even a more rustic Pipe as was used at the first performance. The original scoring for SATB with Piccolo Brass (3 Trumpetsand 3 Trombones) Percussion (2 players) and Organ accompaniment is the preferred version. Full score and parts are available on hire from the publisher or full score on sale (CH71621). The Piccolo part (CH79893-01) is common toboth scorings and is available on sale or hire with the full version. The Organ accompaniment in this score is for performance of the version for SATB Piccolo and Organ only. An A4 spiral-bound version of this score may bepreferable for the organist (CH79893-02). The separate Organ part - available on hire - must be used for the version with instruments.An ad lib. part for the congregation (CH70961 pack of 50) is incorporated into the fullscoring of Missa Carolae. Reference to the entries of the congregation is made in the vocal score for occasions when it is used in conjunction with the full instrumentation.

Richard Allain's Night for SATB and Cello. Night Was commissioned by Commotio and recieved its premiere in Merton College Oxford in June 2007 conducted by Matthew Berry and is available on the Herald label (HAVP340). Composer's Note: Given the long phrase lengths of Night it is suggested that choirs Stagger breathing where necessary. The last page of the score requires some explanation. The singers should split into three separate groups: two equal SATB choirs and an SATB solo quartet. Each group sings their own music - each repetition being separated by a long pause - independent of the othergroups. Thus Choir I will begin and as they finish Choir II will commence etc. The music should continue for about two minutes getting gradually quieter with each repetition. Though a common pulse should be kept the groups begin each repetition as they wish: the music should overlap and blur. Against this the solo Cello plays its fragments of melody. The choirs at the conductor's discretion should end in the order they began leaving the cello to play its last notes as the echoes fade. Duration: 20 minutes

Although the title may conjure images of power this sacred anthem is actually a prayer. The composer constructs lovely flowing lines within a chorale style and introduces some delightfully surprising harmonies. The inspirational words come from the Book of Common Prayer. Easy to medium.

This is the full score of Herbert Howells' 1950 composition Hymnus Paradisi for Soprano and Tenor Soli SATB chorus and orchestra. Now available for the first time in print this score has been prepared from the known sources revised and edited with critical commentary and includes a preface by Paul Spicer and introductory notes by Sir David Willcocks. Four of the choral movements (II-V) are settings of Latin and English texts. These are drawn from the Psalms and the 'Miss pro defunctis' the book of Common Prayer and are immemorial reflections upon the transient griefs and indestructible hopes of mankind. All are appropriate to the mood and purpose ofa Requiem. Movement VI is a setting of lines from the Salisbury Diurnal used here in the translation by Dr G. H. Palmer appearing at the end of Robert Bridges' Anthology The Spirit of Man. The first performance was at the Three Choirs Festival at Gloucester on 7th September 1950 which the composer conducted. The Bach Choir gave the first London performance early in 1951 and recorded the work in 1970 with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Sir David Willcocks.
