It is, on the contrary, an audio CD which has been recorded for sale as a trio CD under my name. Mixing the recordings at the studio, however, gave us the idea to offer this CD Legal Paradizer also as a play along CD. For this reason I have never taken a pedagogic approach to the musical conception of the pieces performed, which, in my opinion, is exactly what makes these recordings so unique. The structure of none of the pieces is, for instance, as simple as that of the tunes on some other play along CDs. Therefore, I have taken the liberty of adding a short explanationand/or comment on every piece meant to make it easier for you to follow the road map of the tunes. Additionally I have explained some stylistic features to help you interprete the individual pieces. Working with my students has shown me how much fun it can be to also offer groove and funk oriented music on a CD to play along. Toccata, Adagio e Fuga per quartetto di clarinetti. Par CALLIGARIS SERGIO. Sergio Calligaris was born in Rosario (1941), Argentina. He is one of the last musicians to incarnate the traditional 19th century figure of pianist, teacher and composer, inaugurated at the beginning of the 19th century by Muzio Clementi and carriedon after that by a sequence of famous names that the history of music has handed down to us. As a pianist, he began to give public performances at the age of 13, making his debut in his home town Rosario. Following this success, he embarked upon an extremely busy career as a soloist, giving numerous recitals in Buenos Aires and other citiesin Argentina. He continued to take advanced lessons with eminent exponents of the most prestigious international piano schools. In 1974 he became an Italian citizen and settled in Rome, teaching piano as principal instrument at the S. Pietro a Majella StateConservatory in Naples, the Luisa DAnnunzio Conservatory in Pescara and the Alfredo Casella Conservatory in Aquila. As a composer, he began - at just 9 years of age - to study in the rigorous school of Paul Hindemith, under the guidance of Father Luis Machado, from whom he inherited a love of counterpoint and a strong taste for harmony. He took a diploma incomposition, counterpoint and fugue at the age of 16 at the Amigos del Arte Society in Rosario, going on in 1964 to do an advanced course in 12-tone counterpoint at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Edward Gregson completed Tributes in the summer of 2010. Lasting some 16 minutes, there are five pieces in the set, each dedicated to a different composer and a different clarinettist (with whom Gregson had long musical associations). Each of the dedicatee composers wrote wonderfully for the Clarinet and, as a tribute to them, Gregson tried to invade, indeed imitate, their stylistic worlds in these pieces. They are as follows: To Francis Poulenc (for Emma Johnson) - a rather dreamy toccata, lyrical in feel, but interrupted by typically quirky and disruptive rhythmic episodes. To Gerald Finzi (for John Bradbury) - slow and lyrical with long melodic arches. To Igor Stravinsky (for Linda Merrick) - asymmetric rhythms dominate, with wide leaps in the solo line and bitonal harmony on the Piano. To Olivier Messiaen (for Nicholas Cox) - based on the ravishing slow movement for Cello in his Quartet for the End of Time, a seamless melody is woven around ever-changing repeated chords on the Piano. To Béla Bartók (for Michael Collins) - the most virtuoso of the set - after a slow introduction, a swirling folk-like dance unfolds, mirroring Bartok's penchant for simple modal shapes and ostinati rhythms. / Clarinette Et Piano

Par DAVID FERDINAND. Although Ferdinand David is mostly known as a composer for a couple of his instrumental works, namely a Concertino for Trombone, and this Concertino, Op. 12 for bassoon, perhaps he should be most well-known as the violinist who premiered the Violin Concerto of Felix Mendelssohn in 1845. He was appointed as concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig when Mendelssohn, a childhood friend, became the principal conductor in 1835. This Concertino for bassoon also exists in a version for viola, and now subsequently this edition for bass clarinet. Although Ferdinand David is mostly known as a composer for a couple of his instrumental works, namely a Concertino for Trombone, and this Concertino, Op. 12 for bassoon, perhaps he should be most well-known as the violinist who premiered the Violin Concerto of Felix Mendelssohn in 1845. He was appointed as concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig when Mendelssohn, a childhood friend, became the principal conductor in 1835. This Concertino for bassoon also exists in a version for viola, and now subsequently this edition for bass clarinet. The title of Paul Mealor's, Spectred Light refers to the ghostly lights sometimes seen at night or twilight over rivers or lakes. Tales of the 'Spectred Lights' can be found in numerous folk tales around the world, and it is often depicted as a malicious character in these stories. In Welsh folklore, it is said that the light is 'fairy fire' held in the hand of a 'pwca' - a small goblin-like fairy that leads lone travelers off the beaten path at night. As the traveller follows the pwca through the marsh, the fire is extinguished, leaving the man lost. This short work for Flute, Clarinet and Piano is an attempt to depict, through sound, this strange phenomenon. The piece flickers into life and, though a series of asymmetric variations, leads the listener into a maze of aural colours. As the music reaches breaking point, it disappears upwards and dissolves into metal wind-chimes. Out of this, a short respite is heard before the music finally hurtles into its finale - a blaze of virtuosity.
