Par DEHNHARD TILMANN. Tilmann Dehnhard’s “A String of Thoughts” is a challenging new work for flute and piano. It makes use of several modern playing techniques covered in Dehnhard’s book “The New Flute” and also those touched upon in his previous publication “Flutebeatboxing”.

Für Flöte Und Klavier Bearbeitet Von Elisabeth Weinzierl / Edmund Wächter. Par MARAIS MARIN. Marin Marais, the legendary gambist at the court of Louis XIV, mainly left works for his own instrument, which are entirely in the French ‘taste’. Marais points out that, although his works are written for viola da gamba, they can equally be playedon flute, violin or other melody instrument. Five pieces from his “Quatrième Livre de Viole” are presented here in arrangements for flute and piano. These are based on a 1917 English edition for string instruments, which lends the dances a certainromantic charm. The original articulation and dynamics from Marais’ first edition of 1717 have been carefully reintroduced. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Répertoire / Flûte Traversière et Piano

Arrangeur: David Overton. Par GALWAY JAMES. This collection of songs were written and arranged for Sir James Galway as concert pieces by David Overton, his longtime arranger. They are all based to some extent on traditional Irish Melodies. The first three are contrasting tunes: 'Spinning Song,” the beautiful slow melody 'She moved through the fair,” and the more up-tempo 'Star of the County Down.” These were so successful in the original flute and piano version, as printed here, that Overton was requested to write versions for strings and for orchestra, which were equally successful and have formed a regular part of Galway's concert repertoire. 'Badinereelerie” is more light-hearted work, first written for Sir James Galway in 1984. Since then, he has played it countless times as printed here, and in a version for flute and orchestra. The surprising mixture of Bach (and Handel and others) with reels and Irish traditional tunes, and even a few English traditional tunes thrown in for good measure, has delighted audiences all over the world. The piece's rousing conclusion includes an optional switch to penny whistle, a practice that Galway writes, 'I have always taken advantage of.”/ Recueil / Flûte Traversière et Piano

Par VINE CARL. Composed for Emmanuel Pahud and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, this mesmerizing 14-minute concerto for flute and strings from 2003 has also been recorded by Sharon Bezaly on BIS. Pipe Dreams follows one of Vine’s preferred architectures: a single movement with three sections in the classic ‘moderate-slow-fast’ form. Although the solo lines are unashamedly virtuosic, the composer states that his intention was ‘not to dazzle but to explore as much dreaminess as possible, filtered through the wilfulness of a metal pipe which believes it has no limits’.
‘A haunting central passage provided a satisfying emotional counterweight to the scintillating brilliance of the outer sections.’

Created in 1943 as part of the four exam pieces for the Paris Conservatoire this charming Sonatine for Flute and Piano is part of the early works of Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) a French Composer following the paths of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. Even though the composer was later quite critical about it this Sonatine which lasts 9 minutes is the most recorded of his compositions and has become a standard in the flute repertoire. Composed of three movements it begins with a tempo “Allegretto” followed by a part more “Andante” and finishes with a cadence “Animé”. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers among many others. His work also includes sonatas for piano and for oboe two symphonies the cello concerto Tout un monde lointain (A whole distant world) the violin concerto L'arbre des songes (The tree of dreams) and the string quartet Ainsi la nuit (Thus the night).

This piece was originally written for Violin and Piano and if the 'New World' Symphony and the 'American' String Quartet are the best-known products of Anton n Dvorak's years in the United States the little Sonatina in G major(sometimes called the 'Indian Lament' Sonatina) may well be the most obscure; yet it is a charming work that deserves better than its relegation to the learning books of young violinists. The Sonatina is in four movements:Allegro risoluto Larghetto Scherzo (molto vivace) and Allegro. The first movement's principal tune has a firm rhythmic spine its second tune a gentle plaintiveness; there is just a hint of Americanfolk music in the movement. The following Larghetto earned the Sonatina its nickname. The succession of its three melodies - one in G minor one in B flat major and one in G major - has to it the same wistfulness and thesame sudden brightening and then softening of mood that we hear in the famous slow movement of the 'New World' Symphony. The Scherzo takes the very first gesture of the Allegro risoluto as its starting-point. The finale isa substantial sonata-allegro movement with three wonderful themes: the opening syncopated idea in G major a subsidiary thought in E minor very dancelike and built around a repeating marcato cell and finally a rich tranquillomelody that closes the exposition. This adaptation for Flute and Piano by James Galway conveys all the spirit of the original.

In Fa Op.X N.5 - Rv 442 F.Vi-1 - Tomo 46 --Vivaldi's Concerto in F RV 433 for Flute Strings and Basso Continuo. Called in both cases 'La tempesta di mare ' the work's opening Allegro has a characteristic thumping unison repeated-note theme with the flute soloist trading short lines in imitation with the orchestral violins in the outer sections and warbling maniacally above the ripieno in the central episodes. The opening closes on a big half cadence and then moves into the quiet central Largo with the flute soloist becalmed in the eye of the storm and haunted by memories and ghosts. The closing Presto opens with a powerful unison theme with the flute soloist performing the first long lyrical lines of the workagainst the thrusting violins and basso continuo.

Bach’s Suite No.2 In B Minor BWV 1067 is one of the four surviving orchestral suites or Ouvertures - that is dance suites in the French style – as he would have named them. The second suite for Flute Strings and Basso Continuo is a beautiful work comprising 8 short movements and is arranged here for Flute with Piano Accompaniment by Erich List and Johannes Weyrauch. This Urtext edition provides you with an accurate realisation of the composer’s original intentions (for the Flute part that is) and thoroughly detailed editorial markings and suggestions.

This Suite was originally written for Flute (or Recorder) and Strings: it is here arranged for Flute and Piano edited by Louis Moyse. It stands out amongst Telemann's work for its cosmopolitan sampling of the various styles of music known to the composer. It contains a pair of French Menuets two Passepieds from Brittany a Polish Polonaise and an Air à l'italienne. For good measure Telemann throws in two quasi-illustrative movements describing Les plaisirs and a Réjouissance respectively. The Overture is perhaps the best-known part of the work and is remarkable for its almost processional feel and itreappears as the Conclusion at the suite's end. This diversity of styles and means fits well the template of a suite but the unifying intelligence behind all of them is definitely that of Telemann.

Strathclyde Concerto No. 6 (Flute Part)-The solo flute here is kept in high profile by the absence from the orchestra not only of other flutes but also of violins and oboes; in addition the trumpets are used sparingly (they do not for instance play in the slowmovement) so that for much of the time the flute is playing against a mellow ensemble of clarinets horns bassoons and low strings. If this is nevertheless one of Davies's most open-spirited pieces that comes partly from theready flights of the soloist partly from its glockenspiel accompaniments in the outer movements (replaced by ticking claves in the Adagio) partly from the dancing character of so much of the music and partly from the harmonicclarity in a light region not far from C minor.Flute part with piano reduction of the orchestral score.
