Franz Schubert(1797-1828) was an Austrian composer working in the early Romantic era. First published in 1823 Die Nacht (D. 983c/Op. 17 No. 4) is scored for an unaccompanied four-part male chorus(TTBB) with words by Friedrich Wilhelm Krummacher. In this lyrical song Schubert cleverly uses the expressive nature of the upper male range to serenade the beauty of the night.
