Haydn however first sold the works to the Parisian Masonic lodge Société Olympique and was thus unable to fulfil his obligation to send the autograph scores to the prince.Haydn's Symphony No.92 received its nickname ?Oxford? in the 19th century probably in connectionwith a performance that took place when the composer received an honorary doctorate from Oxford University in 1791.This edition continues the collaboration between Bärenreiter and the Henle publishing company regarding Haydn?s large-scale choral works operas and symphonies. Symphony in Bb major Hob. I:102-The twelve London Symphonies??? comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn???s symphonic ??uvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. The energetic surging B-flat-major Symphony no. 102 belongs to the group of the last three symphonies premiered in early 1795. Exceptionally Haydn here dispenses with the clarinets that are otherwise generally featured in his late symphonies. The instrumentation of the Adagio is also unusual in that Haydn includes trumpets and timpani both muted. This study edition adopts the musical text of theHaydn Complete Edition thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy score an ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans.

It owes its epithet to its unique beginning: a solo drumroll in the timpani ushers in the slow introduction. This opening bar marked with Haydn???s heading Intrada??? and a pause even inspires many a performer to venture a short timpani improvisation. Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Only eleven of the over one hundred symphonies by Joseph Haydn...(+)
Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Only eleven of the over one hundred symphonies by Joseph Haydn are composed in a minor key. Written in the early 1770s, the Symphony Hob.I:52 in C minor bears some similarities to the slightly earlier Symphony in E minor Hob.I:44 (?Mourning?, BA 10988), not only because they both are composed in a minor key but also because they both feature a pair of horns tuned at different pitches. Haydn seems to have experimented with differently tuned horns inspired by an article in Johann Adam Hiller?s journal ?Musikalische Nachrichten und Anmerkungen? of July 1770, which suggested to tune the horns a minor third apart in order to expand the total horn range. While Haydn followed this recommendation just like that in the E-minor symphony, he chose to have the horns tuned a major sixth apart (high C and E-flat) in the outer movements of the C-minor symphony Hob. I:52, resulting in an unusual horn sound within the orchestral texture. In continuation of the collaboration between Bärenreiter and G. De façon assez amusante, Haydn les vendit ensuite une nouvelle fois au Prince von Oettingen-Wallerstein, qui souhaitait «acquérir 3 nouvelles “Synfonien” de lui». Au-delà de ces complications mercantiles, Haydn se montre, dans ces œuvres, en pleine possession et en pleine maîtrise de son métier de symphoniste. This work probably originated no later than 1770. Its first and second movements quote excerpts from Gregorian chants used in Holy Week. In Haydn?s day it was customary to play individual movements in church services and it may be assumed that these two movements were performed and possibly composed independently from each other.Continuing thecollaboration between Bärenreiter and the Henle publishing company in the areas of large-scale choral works operas and symphonies Haydn?s Symphony No.26 is appearing based on the Henle Complete Edition of the Works of Joseph Haydn. According to his dating of the autograph Haydn composed the Symphony no. 89 in F major in 1787 just one year after the six so-called Paris symphonies. It was written together with its sister work the G-major Symphony no. 88 for the violinist Johann Tost who sold it to the Parisian publisher Sieber. In both works Haydn continues the compositional achievements of the Paris symphonies: mastery of orchestration richness of musical ideas and details and an idiosyncratic multicoloured use of the wind section (which still makes do without Clarinets). In contrast to the buoyant G-major symphony the F-major symphony possesses a ratherpastoral sweet character which in parts can nevertheless soar to dramatic heights. This study edition reproduces the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition which is a guarantor of the finest scholarship. An informative preface and a brief critical report make this handy score an ideal companion for all Haydn fans both present and future.

Haydn composed his Symphony no. 76 at the same time as his Symphonies nos. 77 and 78 for a planned trip to England that never took place. Nonetheless, H. C. Robbins Landon calls these works the ?English symphonies? as they arestylistically closely linked to the ?London Bach?, Johann Christian Bach. Haydn himself, in a letter of 1783 to his Parisian publisher Charles-Georges Boyer, described the symphonies as ?Leicht und nicht vil Concertirend?, meaningthat they were light in spirit and did not contain extensive solo passages but rather a clear sense of classical form.
Continuing the cooperation between Bärenreiter and the G. Henle publisher regarding Haydn?s large-scalechoral works, operas and symphonies, this edition is based on the G. The Bärenreiter catalogue now includes the complete performance material for several ?Sturm und Drang?symphonies as well as all the London and Paris symphonies.

With 2 violino concertato-Haydn's Symphony No.8 is the final piece in his triptych on the times of the day consisting of the symphonies Le Matin Le Midi and Le Soir (Hoboken I:6-8). The cycle originated in 1761 on a commission from Haydn's patron Prince Anton Esterházy. Whether the Prince was hoping for a counterpart to Vivaldi's famous concertos on the four seasons or pursued a different idea can no longer be determined. It was doubtless the purpose of these concertante symphonies to present to a select audience the Prince's chamber ensemble which had been assembled or expanded that spring as well as its new conductor. The pieces are laid out on a large scale full of pomp andsplendour and the scoring at times divided into thirteen separate parts offers virtually every player an opportunity to display his prowess as a soloist. At that time the Esterházy ensemble was made up of six or seven players of the violin or viola (the seventh was actually retained as a flautist) one player each of the violoncello and violone two oboists doubling on flute two horn players and a bassoonist. This listing includes Haydn himself who conducted the ensemble from the first violinist's desk. Contrary to a widely held belief there was no harpsichord. Indeed the only genres that employed a keyboard instrument at that time in the Viennese area were vocal - namely operas cantatas and church music.Urtext from Joseph Haydn WerkeFull score & parts (BA4673) available for sale

Haydn's Symphony Hob. I:89 belongs to a group of symphonies composed between the ?Paris? symphonies (Hob. I:82-87) and their ?London? counterparts (Hob. I: 93-104) the last ones he wrote before his trips to England in 1791-92 and 1794-95.The Symphony in F major is dated 1787 in the autograph score. In this work Haydn borrowed two movements from an earlier piece possibly owing to deadline pressure. The second and fourth movements are arrangements of movements 2 and 3 from his Concerto in F major Hob. VIIh:5 for two ?lire organizzate? and orchestra. The fact that he also arranged movements from his other lire concertos suggests that heregarded them as a sort of musical quarry. This at least allowed him to recycle parts of these works after his patron had probably prohibited him from offering them commercially. This edition continues the collaboration with the Henle publishing company regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works operas and symphonies. Haydn?s ?Farewell Symphony? is one of the most frequently played works of the symphonic repertoire. The popular title did not derive from the composer but refers to the final movement at the end of which (Adagio) the musicians stop playing one after the other leaving only two violins to end the work. According to an anecdote the musicians? exit was a means of making reference to the demands of orchestral work at Esterháza at the end of the season. The publication of Haydn?s ?Sturm und Drang? Haydn?s ?Farewell Symphony? is one of the most frequently played works of the symphonic repertoire. The popular title did not derive from the composer but refers to the final movement at the end of which (Adagio) the musicians stop playing one after the other leaving only two violins to end the work. According to an anecdote the musicians? exit was a means of making reference to the demands of orchestral work at Esterháza at the end of the season. The publication of Haydn?s ?Sturm und Drang? Symphonies the Farewell Symphony and Symphony No. 48 (the so-called ?Maria Theresia? Symphony) represents a continuation of the cooperation between Bärenreiter and theHenle publishing company for editions of larger choral works operas and symphonic works. The publications are based on the Henle ?Complete Edition of the Works of Joseph Haydn?. Both symphonies (BA 10971 and BA 10972) will be published with a full score and orchestra parts on sale in a large format.
