Fifty Carols for Christmas and Advent. Par WILLCOCKS DAVID / RUTTER JOHN. Un deuxième recueil de 50 chants de Noël, principalement pour SATB, certains non accompagnés, et quelques accompagnements ayant pour piano, ou un organe, ou un orchestre, ou ensemble de cuivres. Beaucoup de chants de Noël sont à partir de sources traditionnelles, réarrangées: parmi les éléments composée spécialement pour ce volume sont des chants par William Walton, Benjamin Britten, Richard Rodney Bennett et William Mathias.
Matériau instrumental pour la plupart des articles accompagnés est disponible à la location. John Rutter est né à Londres en 1945 et a étudié la musique au Clare College, Cambridge. Ses compositions embrassent la musique chorale, orchestrale et instrumentale, et il a édité ou co-édité plusieurs anthologies chorale dont quatre pour des volumes de Carols chorales avec Sir David Willcocks et l'Oxford Choral Classics série. De 1975 à 1979, il a été directeur de la musique au Clare College, et en 1981 il a formé son propre choeur, les Cambridge Singers. Il partage maintenant son temps entre la composition et la conduite et est recherché comme un chef d'orchestre invité pour le leader mondial des chorales et orchestres.
Né en 1919, David Willcocks a commencé sa carrière musicale comme choriste à l'Abbaye de Westminster, plus tard, remportant des bourses à Clifton College et King 's College, Cambridge. Après son service de guerre, il a été élu Fellow du Collège King, et plus tard devint organiste de Salisbury et de cathédrales de Worcester, alors que la conduite des Three Choirs Festival à Worcester. These words of this carol, full of colours and rich in symbolism, are from the Cherry Tree Carol , a popular folk carol telling a legend which goes back at least as far as the Coventry Mystery Plays. The piece received its first two performances on the same day, by Robinson College Choir and Clare College Choir, in Cambridge, and was later recorded by Robinson College Choir, conducted by Timothy Brown. The main tune should have an easy-going lilt, which turns into light, sprightly dancing for the refrain. An inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers, the Novello New Choral Series offers pieces for all types of choirs, including sacred and secular works from simple, four-part settings to more expansive, yet accessible, repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. Jeremy Thurlow is a composer, writer and pianist. His music has been described as 'seductive, innovative, full of freshness' by Henri Dutilleux. It has been performed by the BBC Philharmonic, the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, Rolf Hind, the BBC Singers, Endymion, Carmen Elektra, Peter Sheppard Skaerved, Matthew Schellhorn and Sequitur (New York), among others. In 2007 he won the George Butterworth Award for new composition. As a musicologist he writes on French music in the twentieth century. His book on composer Henri Dutilleux is published in French by Millénaire III, and he has written and broadcast on the music of Messiaen and many other 20th-century composers, frequently appearing on Radio 3's CD Review. / Choeur SATB

Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. This collection has practicability as a priority. The Organ parts can be played on either the Piano or the Keyboard.
