minor. Language:
German/English. The
cantata Nach dir, Herr,
verlanget mich (O my
Lord, I long for thee)
BWV 150 is one of the
earliest cantatas from
Bach's Muhlhausen period.
Its authenticity was long
disputed, partly because
of the stylistic
characteristics of this
early work, but also
because the cantata only
survives in sources
dating from the period
after Bach's death.
However, in recent years
a hidden dedication to
Conrad Meckbach, a member
of the Muhlhausen town
council and patron of
Bach, has been
deciphered: the initial
letters of the free
poetry reveal the
acrostic Doctor Conrad
Meckbach (in the 18th
century spelling),
revealing a link to the
city of Muhlhausen and
almost certainly
confirming Bach's
authorship of the
cantata. The occasion of
the composition of the
work is still unknown.
The small instrumental
scoring for just two
violins, bassoon, and
continuo, plus the fact
that only the soprano is
given a solo movement,
suggest a performance
with modest resources.

expansive and unusually
richly scored work, marks
a highlight in the uvre
of Jan Dismas Zelenka
(1679-1745). It was
composed in 1729 while he
was working at the
Dresden court.
The
principal source of this

which had long been kept
under lock and key.
Passages missing because

Harmoniemesse is the last
of the High Masses which
Haydn composed between
1796 and 1802 for the
name day of the Princess
Esterhazy, and at the
same time it was the last
composition which Haydn
ever completed. It was
given its name because of
the important role which
the wind instruments play
in the Mass. In a number

from previous editions

Morell. “Jeph
tha†is
Handel’s last
oratorio. Handel had to
break off from composing
several times because of
his increasing blindness
in 1751. The first
performance at the Covent
Garden Theatre in
February 1752 was the
last performance he
conducted before he went
completely blind. In
“Jephthaâ€,
Handel succeeded in
achieving the perfect
fusion between a biblical
plot and the spirit of
classical tragedy. With
great intensity and
dramatic expression he
highlighted in particular
the fates of Jephtha and
Iphis , thereby
portraying convincing and
complex
characters.
The
chorus “How Dark, O
Lord, are Thy
Decrees†at the end
of part two is of crucial
importance in the work
and is regarded as the
dramatic high point of
the oratorio.
The
vocal score is based on
volume I/30 of the
“Halle Handel
Edition†(BA 4014),
which contains the
complete critical version
of the music of the
oratorio for the first
time.

9790007244729. Language:
German. In spring
1816 Franz Schubert, just
nineteen years old,
completed his second
setting of the Stabat
Mater in the midst of a
highly productive period.
In contrast with his
first setting written the
previous year, just five
minutes in length, this
time Schubert used the
German translation by
Klopstock as the basis
for his composition.
Stefan Schuck's edition
is the first one of this
work to be based on a
critical evaluation of
the primary sources, with
complete performance
material. The work, in a
dark F minor, with its
text by Klopstock, places
Jesus Christ, rather than
Mary, at the center of
the contemplation. With
his fugues, but
particularly in the
eight-part lamenting
chorus Wer wird Zahren
sanften Mitleids,
Schubert shows himself at
the height of his
creative output. He
composed his 4th
Symphony, the Tragic, at
almost the same time. The
Stabat Mater is a
rewarding work for choral
societies and choirs to
perform, because the
choir has the largest
portion to sing, and the
choral parts are not too
demanding. The
composition is also a
beautiful introduction to
the choral-symphonic
music of Schubert for
less experienced choirs.

German. In spring
1816 Franz Schubert, just
nineteen years old,
completed his second
setting of the Stabat
Mater in the midst of a
highly productive period.
In contrast with his
first setting written the
previous year, just five
minutes in length, this
time Schubert used the
German translation by
Klopstock as the basis
for his composition.
Stefan Schuck's edition
is the first one of this
work to be based on a
critical evaluation of
the primary sources, with
complete performance
material. The work, in a
dark F minor, with its
text by Klopstock, places
Jesus Christ, rather than
Mary, at the center of
the contemplation. With
his fugues, but
particularly in the
eight-part lamenting
chorus Wer wird Zahren
sanften Mitleids,
Schubert shows himself at
the height of his
creative output. He
composed his 4th
Symphony, the Tragic, at
almost the same time. The
Stabat Mater is a
rewarding work for choral
societies and choirs to
perform, because the
choir has the largest
portion to sing, and the
choral parts are not too
demanding. The
composition is also a
beautiful introduction to
the choral-symphonic
music of Schubert for
less experienced choirs.

Latin. The Gloria,
composed in early 1822 at
the age of 13, is
Mendelssohn's first
creative venture in the
field of church music on
a larger scale. It is a
direct result of his
composition studies under
the director of the
Berlin Singakademie Carl
Friedrich Zelter, but was
no longer wholly a
student work because the
young composer hoped that
Zelter would provide him
with an opportunity to
perform this work with
the Singakademie. The
enthusiasm for Handel and
Bach which was sustained
by the performances at
the Singakademie
influenced Mendelssohn's
early creative style. In
the Gloria Mendelssohn
sought to emulate the
model of the large-scale
baroque cantata. The
concluding fugue, the
mysterious Qui tollis and
lyrical solos ensembles
in the place of solo
arias give testimony to
Mendelssohn's great

flat major. Language:
Latin. The Gloria,
composed in early 1822 at
the age of 13, is
Mendelssohn's first
creative venture in the
field of church music on
a larger scale. It is a
direct result of his
composition studies under
the director of the
Berlin Singakademie Carl
Friedrich Zelter, but was
no longer wholly a
student work because the
young composer hoped that
Zelter would provide him
with an opportunity to
perform this work with
the Singakademie. The
enthusiasm for Handel and
Bach which was sustained
by the performances at
the Singakademie
influenced Mendelssohn's
early creative style. In
the Gloria Mendelssohn
sought to emulate the
model of the large-scale
baroque cantata. The
concluding fugue, the
mysterious Qui tollis and
lyrical solos ensembles
in the place of solo
arias give testimony to
Mendelssohn's great
talent and willingness to
experiment. Score and
