Park High School to
celebrate the 50th
anniversary of their band
programme. They gave the
premiere in a virtual
online concert in October
2020. Klezmer music
originated inthe
‘shtetl’
(villages) and the
ghettos of Eastern
Europe, where itinerant
Jewish troubadours, known
as
‘klezmorim’,
had performed at
celebrations,
particularly weddings,
since the early Middle
Ages. 'Klezmer' is a
Yiddish termcombining the
Hebrew words
‘kley’
(instrument) and
‘zemer’
(song). The roots of the
style are found in
secular melodies, popular
dances, Jewish
‘hazanut’
(cantorial music) and
also the
‘nigunim’,
the wordless melodies
intoned bythe
‘Hasidim’
(orthodox Jews). The
melodies used in the four
movements of A Little
Klezmer Suite have

After the passing of
Satoshi Yagisawa’s
close friend and work
partner, Tsutomu Murata,
a designer of Neo Create
in August 2020, the
composer began work on
this piece. Murata
performed music for
audiences primarily as a
leader and conductor of
Kurume City Brass, a
group which is active in
Fukuoka Prefecture in
Japan. Eternal
Frienship depicts a
five-minute chorale which
explores “how music
can convey that a close
friend is indispensable
to you, more broadly,
everyone to
someone,†much like
how Murata conveyed the
appeal of music to his
audiences. Under the
direction of the composer
himself, the work had its
world premiere and was
recorded with the Kobe
College Wind Orchestra.

The Adagio is
based on a manuscript
that was discovered in
the Dresden State Library
after the Second World
War by Remo Giazotto, a
Milanese musicologist who
was working on
Albinoni’s
biography at the time.
Only the bass line and
six bars of melody were
found and they probably
belonged to the slow
movement of a Trio
Sonata. In 1945 Giazotti
reconstructed the now
famous Adagio which has
made Albinoni known to a
worldwide audience.
Das

precious manuscript in
its archives for almost
200 years. The manuscript
was acquired long ago by
Johann Gottlob Immanuel
Breitkopf, the brilliant
and dynamic forefather of
the publishing house
Breitkopf & Hartel, who
conducted a prosperous
business selling music
transcriptions in
Leipzig. It is still
unclear as to how he
obtained the manuscript.
Perhaps it had belonged
to the estate of Wilhelm
Friedemann Bach, from
whom Breitkopf apparently
acquired a part of his
Bach collection. The
earliest reference to the
manuscript's change of
ownership is found in
Breitkopfs Verzeichniss
Musicalischer Werke of
1761, which includes
Bach's Missa, a 2 Flauti,
2 Violini, Viola 4 Voci,
Organo under the listing
of copies of unpublished
compositions. The copy
was available at the
price of 2 thl. (thalers)
12gl. (groschen). A few
years later, in 1769, the
same offer appeared again
together with other works
by Bach or ascribed to
him in the Verzeichniss
lateinischer und

Kirchen-Musiken of
Bernhard Christoph
Breitkopf & Sohn. In more
recent times, the work
has been mentioned in
Wilhelm Hitzig's Katalog

Bach's own hand. The
economic reorganization
of the publishing house
Breitkopf & Hartel after
the Second World War made
it necessary to sell the
manuscript together with
other works from the
publisher's archives.
This manuscript was to
have been put up at
auction by the auction
house J. A. Stargardt.
The catalogue, containing
an informative commentary
by Wolfgang Schmieder,
was already printed, but
before the auction could
take place, the land of
Hesse decided to purchase
all the manuscripts, thus
preventing the dispersion
of this valuable
collection. The
manuscript was officially
handed over to the
Hessische Landes- und
Hochschulbibliothek in
Darmstadt on 29 October
1953. The A major Mass is
still preserved there
today, together with its

Holz geschnitzt. Wir
wissen weder, wer sie
sind, noch woher sie
kommen oder wohin sie
gehen. Wir sehen nur,
dass sie
zusammengehören. Und

is always an adventure.
Once like-minded,
music-loving people have
gathered to form a group,

four different keys: C, B
flat, E flat and C bass.
In addition, there are
parts for
piano/keyboard/bass and
guitar (with chords) as
well as drum kit and
percussion. All the parts
can be combined in any
way you like, to form a
pop band, jazz combo and
so on. The minimal
ensemble consists of a
vocal part (sung or
played by a wind
instrument) and one
accompanying instrument.

This importance of wind

Maxime Aulio’s
work Whispering Wind with
its suspended
atmospheres, vaporous
lines and luminous
colours. The wind
