Par AASS LARS / HINSON MAURICE. The stylistic transition from the late Baroque to the Classical period was almost something of a Bach affair. While Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) defined and summed up the Baroque musical language, his sons Willhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Christoph Friedrich and Johann Christian, infused with the spirit of innovation, struck new musical paths that opened the way to the Classical and Romantic eras. This piano book celebrates the work of these four sons of Bach with a fascinating and varied collection of pieces for the grade 2-5 player.

Easier Piano Pieces 18-This is a delightful collection of 18 short preludes composed by J.S. Bach and edited here for Piano by Hedwig McEwen and Kethleen Long. The preludes are here grouped in three sets of six each. The first group comes from the Wilhelm Friedemann Bach Notebook compiled by J.S. Bach for the instruction of his eldest son. However Nos. 3 and 6 may have been composed by the son under the guidance of his father. The second group which has been preserved in copies made by his pupils was probably composed by Bach himself. The third group comes from the collection of Johann Peter Kellner - Nos. 1-4 were probably the work of Bach's pupils but no.5 and no.6 wereundoubtedly written by Bach. Prelude in E minor is included as an alternative piece for ABRSM Piano Grade 5 2017-2018 Selected for the ABRSM Harpsichord Grade 4.

Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Bach transcriptions have always been popular for the musical brilliance of the Baroque master opens up a vast field, for composers and performers. Even the pianist and composer Emile Naoumoff who began his career at the age of 8, composed a piano concerto at the age of 10 and played it under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin is an expert and great admirer of Bach's music.
The present edition contains no virtuoso 'fireworks music' but unites three slow, meditative pieces: 'O Mensch bewein dein Sünde groß' (Orgelbüchlein), the aria 'Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben' (St. Matthew's Passion), and the arioso 'Betrachte, meine Seel', mit ängstlichem Vergnügen' (St. John's Passion), demanding from the performer the pianistic realisation of subtle polyphony and the development of a very refined sound./ Recueil / Piano

J. S. Bach composed his Capriccio Sopra La Lontananza Del Suo Fratello Dilettissimo (Capriccio On The Departure Of A Beloved Brother) in the early years of his career. It is rumored that the piece waswritten and performed by a nineteen-year-old Bach on the occasion of his brother Johann Jacob leaving home to become an oboist in the army of Charles XII in Sweden. The work is possibly modeled on the Biblical Sonatas ofJohann Kuhnau. This Henle Urtext Edition for solo Piano has been edited by Georg von Dadelsen and includes fingering by Hans-Martin Theopold.

With fingerings by Renate Kretschmar-Fischer. The popular work known today as the Italian Concerto was published as Part 2 of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Clavier-Ãœbung in 1735 together with the Overture in B minor (BWV 831). Publications of music were a rarity in those days and it stands to reason that Bach would select only pieces he found superior and representative. Originally written for a two-manual Harpsichord this music with its terrace dynamics alternating between Piano and Forte also reveals its full beauty when played on a modern piano with the soloist vying with an imaginary orchestral tutti. Thisedition presents the Urtext of the »New Bach Edition« at the cutting edge of Bach scholarship. The fingerings have been added by Renate Kretschmar-Fischer an internationally renowned pianist and teacher offering valuable suggestions for study and lessons. Rounding off this volume is an informative introduction discussing the work’s genesis source tradition as well as fingering on the modern Piano. Urtext edition without fingering available as BA5194.
