The recording features the music of all Six Celtic Nations and includes jigs, reels, hornpipes, slides, polkas, marches, country dances, larides, andros, slipjigs, strathspeys, airs and O'Carolan tunes. 35 songs in the book are not on the CD. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Celtic/Irish - Solos / Tablatures / Banjo Tablatures à 5 Cordes
Here is a book of tunes from the Elizabethan era - the great period of English s...(+)
Here is a book of tunes from the Elizabethan era - the great period of English song - set in tablature for the clawhammer banjo. At first glance, it is true, the songs of Shakespeare's day and the mountain banjo seem to be worlds apart. But the musical traditions are, in fact, related, as Elizabethan songs are the old world cousins of mountain tunes. As a result, Elizabethan tunes are a natural way to extend the mountain banjo repertoire for intermediate and advanced players. Their pedigree, their modal feel, the lilting rhythms, and the ease with which they can be adapted to the banjo argue the case. At the same time, they open the possibility for new sounds - in particular new rhythms - for the old instrument, pushing the banjo beyond unnatural limitations and giving it a new voice. Each section of the book is organized around a traditional mountain tuning, with a mountain song serving as a model of that tuning, illuminating the relationship between the two musical worlds. 'The Bard's Banjo? is the first banjo instruction book devoted to the repertoire of Elizabethan song. The arrangements are carefully designed to bring out the melody, but easy enough for a beginner or intermediate player to learn quickly. The tablature in the book is large and easy to read with accent marks for melody notes, as well as right and left-hand fingering indications. This book is not simply a tablature book! Children's Made Easy for Banjo also features instruction on learning the chords to each song, chord progression charts for each song, special learning tips for each arrangement, a full page of advice on memorizing the songs and more. After the Civil War the ?up picking? finger style of playing the 5-string banjo came into vogue ? eventually finding its way into the Victorian parlor and later college glee and music clubs. The original down picking style didn't entirely die out because throughout the reaminder of the 19th Century new methods for the banjo often included a number of songs in the older two-finger banjo style of performance. Perhaps the most intricate set of songs to appear in the ?original? banjo style were these 34 progressive pieces found in Frank B. Converse's Analytical Banjo Method from 1887. Those songs presentedin this book for clawhammer banjo offer a nice mix of banjo characteristic pieces medleys and new compositions from Converse.
