Here's the feel-good anthem of the year! Sure to put a smile in your soul this rhythmic shout of praise is written in a folk-rock style reminding us that no matter the circumstance we should rejoice for we are always in God's care. An unrelenting piano pattern forms the groove of the piece that propels the arrangement forward and the vocals are mostly three-part creating an inviting shimmer in the harmonies. An a cappella moment with hand claps will literally lift the roof. A must-do!

Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements which with their polyphonic structure are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century. The first Urtext edition BA 4002 based on the Halle Handel Edition was published in 1960. At that time no critical commentary was published so that in cases of doubt the basis on which editorialdecisions were made was not officially recorded. John Tavener's The Martydom Of Saint Stephen for Solo Horn Double SATB Choir and Organ. Commissioned by the Metropolitan and Cathedral Chapter of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Vienna. First performed on 16thMarch 2015 at St Stephen’s Cathedral Vienna by the Cathedral Choir conducted by Markus Landerer. Vienna's iconic gothic cathedral is dedicated to the first Christian martyr and the Metropolitan and Chapter chosewith discrimination and imagination when they asked John Tavener to write this work setting the account of the stoning of St Stephen from the Acts of the Apostles. The choral writing is far from difficult and rich double-choireffects from staggered entries singing the same music creates an impressive sense of the numinous. Tavener fans will not be surprised that the composer suggests that extra male voices might be required. The virtuoso horn part marked 'ferocious - wild and violent' is directed to be played from a gallery and suggests the hail of stones and hatred directed at the saint. The organ mostly offers brief interjections and chordal support until the last 18bars a lullaby(?) for the saint who 'fell asleep in the Lord' as he was being stoned. John himself went to his final sleep not long after composing this majestic work: Eternal memory! - Organists' Review

A secular carol-Commissioned by the Fairhaven Singers (Ralph Woodward conductor) and premiered in December 2013 this Christmas carol is not explicitly religious and so can be used at any occasion during the festive period. The text tells of ‘this beautiful time of the year’ and how it is a time for reflection on the year that’s gone by. The strophic setting is very approachable being mostly homophonic with some gentle dissonance and would give a contrast to the lighter side of the traditional Christmas choral fare.

Tiefe Stimme / Low Voice-Continuing the new Urtext edition of Schubert?s Lieder editor Walther Dürr now presents Volume 6 for Low Voice. While volumes 1 to 4 of this series contain mostly Lieder that Schubert had published during his lifetime volume 5ff. contain the remaining songs which are presented basically chronologically in the order of their Deutsch catalogue number. The Lieder in this sixth volume were composed during the period between autumn 1814 and spring 1815. With ?Nachtgesang? (D 119) and ?Trost in Tränen? (D120) Schubert turns to the?Strophenlied? in its stricter sense for the first time. He develops an interest in this form parallel to his first involvement with Geothe. Schubert during this period an assistant teacher at his father?s school orientated himself towards the so-called ?Berliner Liederschule? particularly the songs of Johann Friedrich Reichardt. By the beginning of the year 1815 he drew his inspiration mainly from the texts of Theodor Körner; however he regularly still produced settings for the poetry of Goethe and Schiller.- Based on the Urtext of the ?New Schubert Edition?- Newly engraved clearly presented musical layout- Foreword by Walther Dürr on the history and genesis of the work as well as an explanation of the sources for each individual lied (Eng/Ger)- Includes English translations of lieder texts by Richard Wigmore

Par SHARP TIM. This work grew out of the co-creator's love for the tunes and texts coming out of the Appalachian Mountains and the shape-note and early Moravian singing tradition. In the words of Tim Sharp, We took the image of bands of angels singing and playing at the Nativity as reported in the second chapter of Luke's gospel, transported that image to Appalachia, and Angel Band is the result. Adam Hiller, Heft 1 Chorale SATB [Partition] Carus Verlag
The six collections of 'Vierstimmige Motetten und Arien' published by Johann Ada...(+)
The six collections of 'Vierstimmige Motetten und Arien' published by Johann Adam Hiller offer a selection of motets, mostly from the second half of the 18th century. They show us the products of a new age of achievement in which the motet was again able to flourish after this genre had led only a shadowlike existence for more than a century. The editor of those collections, Johann Adam Hiller, was active as a composer of Singspie, editor of various musical periodicals, leader of the Gewandhaus concerts, University Director of Music, musical director of the Neukirche, and finally, from 1789, Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Upon Hiller's assumption of the office of Thomaskantor theolder motets were replaced in Leipzig church services by contemporary compositions. Printed texts which have been preserved show that Hiller's collections were used widely. A Critical Report from the editor, Uwe Wolf, with additional information concerning the motets and their composers, will be published to cover all the collections. / Mottet / Répertoire / Choeur Mixte

Celestial Map Of The Sky:
SATB: Score Chorale SATB [Partition] Novello & Co Ltd.
Full Score-Commissioned by The Manchester Grammar School to celebrate its quince...(+)
Full Score-Commissioned by The Manchester Grammar School to celebrate its quincentenary in 2015. First performed on 16 April 2015 at the Bridgewater Hall Manchester by The Manchester Grammar School Choir Hallé Youth Choir and Hallé Orchestra conducted by Mark Elder. Composer’s Note: 'A Celestial Map of the Sky commissioned by The Manchester Grammar School on the occasion of its quincentenary takes its cue from two woodcuts engraved by the German polymath Albrecht Dürer in 1515 the same year in which school was founded. These two groundbreaking polar projections of the northern and southern celestial hemispheres are the oldest printedEuropean star charts. Whereas prior celestial projections sometimes depicted allegorical figures looking over the skies Dürer instead honoured four ancient astronomers by depicting them at their work overseeing his maps. The various texts I have chosen (mostly extractions from larger works) reflect the changing worldview hinted at in Dürer’s charts. His inclusion of the four astronomers was a signal that the universe could be comprehended through human intervention rather than solely through spiritual or symbolic means.' - Tarik O’Regan
