First published in 1921 George Dyson’s superb Woodland Suite was originally titled In Pixieland. This title in part describes the musics changes of mood from lively to tranquil symbollic of the movement and nature of woodland nymphs. Expressive exciting and beautiful; this is an evocative and charming work and is ideally suited to amateur and school orchestras. The Brook Green Suite for strings was written in 1933 during Holst's stay in hospital (where he later died in May 1934). He composed this piece for his pupils - the junior orchestra at St Paul's Girls School - as wanted towrite a piece in a contemporary mature style that was easy enough for his them to perform.Available here is the score and parts with string parts 5.5.3.3.3. and optional flute oboe clarinet in B flat and bassoon parts.
