Carrousel is a composition written for the former Guitar Quartet Quadrant (Belgium). The classical 'waltz' brings back memories of a barrel organ on a fair and evokes a fun ride on a carrousel. Strange things are happening on this adventurous ride and some things go wrong here and there: the carrousel horses go wild, the engine breaks down, the driver may have been drinking a little too much... but happily all ends well! Have fun on this adventurous musical ride! / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / 4 Guitares

eingerichtet von dem Dublin Guitar Quartet und Arvo Pärt. Par PART ARVO. 'I have developed a highly formalised compositional system, which I have been using to write my music for twenty years. Summa is the most strict and enigmatic work in this series', said Arvo Pärt in 1994. The neutral title itself embodies the essence of the content as the work is based on the text of the Latin Credo. The great simplicity of the piece masks its complexity. The underlying rules ensure that on the surface a cycle of continuous change is created while the deep structure possesses an order of stillness. Saale Kareda
Originally written for four a cappella voices in 1977, the string quartet version dates from 1991. This edition adds a further version for guitar quartet./ Répertoire / 4 Guitares

'This music grew out of necessity. A large number of guitarists with a wide range of technical ability were brought together as an ensemble to be trained in as musical a way as possible By writing parts from the 4th to the 1st progressively more demanding the idea of ensemble playing has proved not only successful musically but also technically accommodating; therefore this material should be ideally suited for class tuition. The absence of fingering is intentional; on closer acquaintance with the music players should experiment with various fingerings. Dynamics noted in the score are only suggestions which can be altered according to individualtaste. The possibilities for interesting and exciting colours and sonorities are almost inexhaustible and should be one of the more appealing aspects of such music-making. If this music succeeds in bringing more guitarists out of isolation and under the same roof as it has done in the experience of the composer then it can be considered as a decisive step forward in the development of the Guitar as a 'musical' instrument'. - Gilbert E.
