About Suzuki
Method
The
Suzuki Method is based on
the principle that all
children possess ability
and that this ability can
be developed and enhanced
through a nurturing
environment. All children
learn to speak their own
language with relative
ease and if the same
natural learning process
is applied in teaching
other skills, these can
be acquired as
successfully. Suzuki
referred to the process
as the Mother Tongue
Method and to the whole
system of pedagogy as
Talent Education. The
important elements of the
Suzuki approach to
instrumental teaching
include the following:an
early start (aged 3-4 is
normal in most
countries); the
importance of listening
to music; learning to
play before learning to
read; -the involvement of
the parent; a nurturing
and positive learning
environment; a high
standard of teaching by
trained teachers; the
importance of producing a
good sound in a balanced
and natural way; core
repertoire, used by
Suzuki students across
the world; social
interaction with other
children. Suzuki students
from all over the world
can communicate through
the language of
music.

An Advanced Guide to
Quicker
Learning
Know
The Score is a guide
to quicker learning for
advanced trumpet players.
It was originally
published in 2012 and
designed with the
DipABRSM Quick Study in
mind – a previously
unseen extended piece of
music for which 5 minutes
preparation time was
given prior to an
assessed performance. The
music was at roughly
grade 6 level, based on
an assumption that a
diploma standard player
should be capable of
tackling the test in this
relatively short amount
of time. Following the
recent withdrawal of the
qualification, the
continued aim of this
newly edited series is to
boost the more advanced
player’s confidence at
quick learning. Two
assumptions are made here
— that you are a
diploma level trumpeter,
and that a reasonable
level of sight-reading
skill is in place. That
said, if you’re less
proficient at
sight-reading, you should
find much in the book
that will help you to
improve and feel more
confident. Alternatively,
the book will be of
interest to teachers
seeking varied,
approachable repertoire
and theory content to
support a keen grade 6
pupil’s longer-term
learning. The book
contains 15 original
quick study pieces, 8 of
which have guides.

“Born
in Toulouse, Marcel
Bitsch (1921-2011) went
on to study at the Paris
Conservatoire before
becoming a professor of
counterpoint at the
institution. As an
exceptionally versatile
composer, Bitsch has
composed orchestral
works, chamber works and
numerous pieces and
studies for wind
instruments. Four
Variations on a Theme by
Domenico Scarlatti is a
significant addition to
the Trumpet and Cornet
repertoire. Suited to
advanced level trumpeters
and cornetists, Bitsch's
Four Variations on a
Theme by Domenico
Scarlatti includes a
variety of technical
aspects as well as
sublime musicality. In
his latter years, Bitsch
dedicated himself to the
analysis of music by the
Baroque masters. It is
clear that his
inspiration for Four
Variations on a Theme by
Domenico Scarlatti comes
from his passion for and
interest in the era. The
variety of this exciting
Bitsch piece is
outstanding, creating a
necessary, inspiring
addition to the Trumpet

For the
teacher of instrumental
music classes, individual
differences among
students are inevitable.
Unfortunately, the lack
of flexible materials
frequently forces
teachers to adopt a
quasi-instructional
procedure best described
as lockstep, where all
students in the class
rehearse each exercise
until the slow members of
the class succeed or
until the teacher gives
up. The Individualized
Instructor was designed
with the expectation that
students are different.
With this method, high-,
average-, and
low-achieving students in
a class are able to
progress simultaneously
at their own rate
according to their
interest and ability. In
addition, the flexibility
of the instructional
format often allows
twelve or more students
to perform different
musical material
simultaneously, thereby
eliminating the
“follow the
leader†approach to
music learning. All study
materials in the series
are musical. Nonmusical
exercises are excluded in
favor of folk song
literature, musical
rounds, and musical
ensembles. Furthermore,
The Individualized
Instructor encourages
students to think about
their music: to analyze
unfamiliar material,
generalize previously
learned concepts and
skills, and synthesize
all elements into a
musically proficient
performance. In addition,
this series develops many
fundamentals (tonality,
phrasing, tempo, and
musical style) through
the use of the singing
voice. Singing best
provides the
“musicalâ€
experience that,
subsequently, can be
applied to the
development of musically
sensitive instrumental
performance. Books 1, 2,
and 3 and the
supplementary books
ensure that these
fundamental ideas are
carried well beyond the
first year of
instruction.

Castérède's
Sonatina for Trumpet and
Piano, the realisation
that his music remains in
the shadows of his French
contemporaries is one
that is hard to fathom.
Should you be a fan of
Messiaen, then
Castérède's
Sonatina is one for you.
Having won prizes in
Piano, chamber music,
harmony, composition,
analysis and aesthetics
in music whilst studying
at Paris Conservatoire,
it is not surprising that
the composer's Sonatina
for B flat or C Trumpet
and Piano is full of
musically appealing
features. Elements
include exquisite use of
ornamentation, exploiting
Trumpet technique to its
full potential, and
clever uses of shared
melody between the
Trumpet and Piano. From
the lively, harmonically
rich first movement to
the luscious melodies of
the second, this Sonatina
provides an enjoyable
listen and fun piece to
learn for all trumpeters.

For the
teacher of instrumental
music classes, individual
differences among
students are inevitable.
Unfortunately, the lack
of flexible materials
frequently forces
teachers to adopt a
quasi-instructional
procedure best described
as lockstep, where all
students in the class
rehearse each exercise
until the slow members of
the class succeed or
until the teacher gives
up. The Individualized
Instructor was designed
with the expectation that
students are different.
With this method, high-,
average-, and
low-achieving students in
a class are able to
progress simultaneously
at their own rate
according to their
interest and ability. In
addition, the flexibility
of the instructional
format often allows
twelve or more students
to perform different
musical material
simultaneously, thereby
eliminating the
“follow the
leader†approach to
music learning. All study
materials in the series
are musical. Nonmusical
exercises are excluded in
favor of folk song
literature, musical
rounds, and musical
ensembles. Furthermore,
The Individualized
Instructor encourages
students to think about
their music: to analyze
unfamiliar material,
generalize previously
learned concepts and
skills, and synthesize
all elements into a
musically proficient
performance. In addition,
this series develops many
fundamentals (tonality,
phrasing, tempo, and
musical style) through
the use of the singing
voice. Singing best
provides the
“musicalâ€
experience that,
subsequently, can be
applied to the
development of musically
sensitive instrumental
performance. Books 1, 2,
and 3 and the
supplementary books
ensure that these
fundamental ideas are
carried well beyond the
first year of
instruction.
