Par WUORINEN CHARLES. Charles Wuorinen\'s Second Piano Trio was found on his desk at the time of his passing in March 2020. A single, nine-minute movement, it is characterized by a complex, lively rhythmic interplay between the three instruments, in particular a wittily repeated figure of sixteenth-note quintuplets. Upon reviewing Wuorinen\'s third and final draft for this piece posthumously, three of Wuorinen\'s close musical confidant his student, composer Anthony Cornicello, who edited and engraved the work; his partner and manager, Howard Stokar; and his frequent collaborator, cellist Fred Sherry have decided unanimously that while Wuorinen would certainly have added small details to the score, what he has left behind is a complete and substantial piece. It is published for sale as a full piano score with violin and cello parts. This is the last known work completed by Charles Wuorinen. / Date parution : 2022-09-07/ Répertoire / Violon, Violoncelle et Piano

Ravel was not only a master craftsman of exquisitely constructed chamber works but he was also a key innovator inspired by the tonal/atonal experiments of Schoenberg Stravinsky and the Second Viennese School. This is most closely reflected in the remarkable Mallarmé Poems Ravel's closest approach to the modernist innovations. Elsewhere his Piano Trio presents a perfect example of the delicacy and intricacy of Ravel's chamber music. Joined by several other full chamber pieces this is music that presents Ravel at his most musically ambitious brought together for the first time in one large-format attractively-priced volume.

Saubat (Cello) and Gwenaelle Rouger (Piano).I finished writing Piano trio: Los Ojos in early May 2007. It is approximately13 minutes long and has a three-movement structure of essentially two slow movements separated by a central fast section. The final slow movement is a variation of the opening movement ending with a ?toy? defined by ThomasMace(a contemporary of William Lawes) in his 1676 book Musicke?s Monument as ?a light-Squibbish Thing only fit for Fantastical and Easie-Light-Headed People; and are of any sort of Time?.The Machado poem behindthe piece Los Ojos (the eyes) is about a widower who has locked himself away but after a year begins to wonder about the colour of his beloved?s eyes. He is horrified that he can?t remember. One spring day he leaves the houseand just happens to glimpse a flash of eyes through a window and instantly recalls the colour; ??Como esos!?; ?Like those!?. Distance and Enchantment is a musical essay considering the strikingly common occurrence of people who disappear from home never to return. It takes the form of two meditations on traditional songs which are playedtogether without a break amounting to a single movement of about eleven minutes duration. The first song The Dark Eyed Gipsy tells of a woman who of her own accord leaves her home to roam the unknown world with a band ofgipsies; and the second A ghaoil lig dhachaigh gu m'mathair mi tells of a girl who wanders a little too far from home on a dark night and is stolen away by the fairies. for Violin, Cello, and Piano Full Score. Par HAILSTORK ADOLPHUS. Trio was commissioned by the Nova Trio of Norfolk, Virginia. The ethnic diversity of the group influenced the writing of the composition. The first movement is a lament commemorating the Jewish holocaust. The theme presented in the violin occurs in every movement. The second movement scherzo leads directly into the finale, a lively dance in an irregular (11/8) meter.

Par SIBELIUS JEAN. Five multi-movement trios for piano and two string instruments by Sibelius are known from the years 1883?1888. The ?large? trios, such as the Havträsk and Korpo Trio (JS 207, JS 209), were written for the classical piano trio scoring of violin, violoncello and piano. Apparently, Sibelius kept composing trios to play among his family and friends, having in mind to be one of the musicians himself. Chamber music was an essential part of social life. When listening to Sibelius? trios, one cannot help but notice that the repertoire included many works of Viennese Classicism.
Although Sibelius's feelings towards his youthful works were not exactly uncomplicated, Sibelius biographer Otto Andersson later reported ?that the master, in later years, missed [the Korpo Trio] very much and would have been very pleased to see [it] preserved.? / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Violon, Violoncelle et Piano

Par WENNAKOSKI LOTTA. Lotta Wennäkoski tells about her 10 minute long work Päärme (Hem) for piano trio: 'We often speak in music of crafting in a figurative sense, and craftsmanship is, for the composer particularly, a traditional professional virtue. I personally have from time to time nevertheless been interested in the concrete images aroused by handicrafts, the way fabrics feel, and sewing. The pi-ano trio Päärme/Hem has a pulsative character, especially in the outer sections, and the idea of steady but erratically colourful stitching prompted the amusing and highly unusual word I chose for the title of the piece. The hemming in this trio is cheerfully brisk, though the result is not al-ways even intended to be over-neat or regular. For noise sounds are also an intrinsic feature of a hand-made texture. As is often the case with me, my source of inspiration in composing was the fact that the Sibelius Piano Trio would be giving the first performance. The slow, melodic material of the static middle section is to a great extent indebted to the knowledge of just how succulently such delicate, inten-sive lines can sound in the hands of ace players.' Piano Trio no. 2 in c minor op. 66. After the great success of his first Piano Trio in d minor op. 49, some five years passed before Mendelssohn set to work on a new composition for this formation. But then the c-minor Trio came into being in a relatively short period in March/April 1845 and was published around a year later. Much more sombre in character than the sibling work, this second trio is also considered much more difficult in terms of technique (above all in the piano part). Thus, it has always stood somewhat in the shadow of the earlier trio. However, chamber music aficionados generally regard it as the more mature and challenging work in terms of compositional technique. The trio, taken from the volume Mendelssohn · Piano Trios HN 957, is now available from Henle for the first time also as a practical single edition.
