Piano

9 complete piano sonatas with background information, performance advice and musicianship activities. Par . The Intermediate Piano Sonata Collection gathers together 9 complete sonatas that are all intermediate to early advanced (Grades 4 to 6) in standard. Featuring works by Beethoven, Anna Bon, Haydn, Mozart and Schumann, it provides the highest quality music and many years of study. Each sonata is accompanied by background information, performance advice, analysis and musicianship activities; students are also encouraged to use the Sonata road map to analyse each work in detail themselves. Piano sonatas are a fundamental part of the piano repertoire, but many students miss out on these masterpieces because they so rarely play a complete sonata ? often only individual movements are available and subsequent movements can be too difficult. This collection aims to introduce the intermediate pianist to complete sonatas. Through it, players will gain a greater understanding of what they are playing, enhancing their interpretation and developing their musicianship. / Date parution : 2023-03-11/ Recueil / Piano

Among the Piano sonatas by Joseph Haydn the Sonata in E flat Hob. XVI:49 is probably the piece we know most about in terms of genesis. It is one of the few sonatas that have survived in Haydn's own handwriting and the correspondence between Haydn and his 18 years younger admirer Marianne von Genzinger refers to the work several times. That alone was reason enough for Christa Landon the renowned editor of Haydn's Piano sonatas in the Wiener Urtext Edition to present an edition of this work with a facsimile of Haydn's autograph many years ago. The new edition now publishes the facsimile with the musicaltext newly revised by Ulrich Leisinger.

The Sonata in A major Hob. XVI:26 is one of the sonatas by Joseph Haydn which increasingly become the focus of attention of our piano teachers. Thanks to its moderate technical demands it is perfect for piano lessons. At the same time it shows essential features of Haydn's piano style in a condensed form – an expressive musical declamation rhetorical breaks full of tension wit and humour – which culminates not only in one of the shortest final movements of Haydn but also in a minuet the second half of which (in Minuet and Trio) corresponds to the first half when played backwards. A real voyage of discovery for the 'eagle-eyed' ones among the young pianoplayers! The musical text is based on Christa Landon's edition newly revised by Ulrich Leisinger; the notes on interpretation by Robert D. Parmi les sonates pour piano de Joseph Haydn, la Sonate en E Hob plat. Joseph Haydn?s popular Piano Sonata in D major comes from a group of six sonatas which Haydn had published as a collection by the Viennese publisher Artaria in 1780. The edition was dedicated to the sisters Katharina and Marianna Auenbrugger, two Viennese pianists whom the composer greatly admired: ?The approval of the Misses von Auenbrugger is most important to me; for their way of playing, and their genuine insight into music the music, equals that of the greatest masters.? In the Henle Urtext edition, taken from the revised volumes of the complete Haydn piano sonatas, Lars Vogt takes the place of the Auenbrugger sisters: he has added fingering, making this work, brimming with energy and yet technically easy to master, newly accessible for all piano enthusiasts.

| Cadenzas (HAYDN FRANZ
JOSEF) Piano seul Schott
to the concerto for piano and orchestra in G Major Hob. XVIII:4. Par HAYDN FRANZ...(+)
to the concerto for piano and orchestra in G Major Hob. XVIII:4. Par HAYDN FRANZ JOSEF. Improvised and also composed solo cadenzas, normally occuring towards the end of a bravura aria or an instrumental concerto movement, have existed since the late 16th century. They provide the performer with an opportunity for self-presentation in the form of a free style of playing or singing, based on themes and motifs from previous sections of the movement. Solo cadenzas are for the most part introduced by a six-four chord held by the orchestra; the soloist begins a protracting interpolation in free stlye, subsequently culminating on the dominant chord, usually with a trill.
Whereas originally composers left solo cadenzas to be freely improvised, from the middle of the 19th century onwards they were frequently specifically written out. The increasing abuse of cadenzas as a mere display of free virtuosity, ignoring the style and impetus of the composition, played a substantial factor in this development. Thus Beethoven gives the soloist no opportunity whatsoever for free improvisation in his 5th piano concerto in which the cadenza becomes an integral, obligatory component of the complete work.
In this unique series Schott Music presents cadenzas created for well-known instrumental concertos from the Classical and Romantic periods by major composers and soloists of our time.
Nino Rota dedicated the 'Kadenzen zum Klavierkonzert Nr. 4 in G-Dur (Cadenzas of the Concerto No. 4 for Piano and Orchestra in G major) Hob. XVIII:4' by Joseph Haydn to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (1920-1995), who recorded them for the label EMI./ Répertoire / Piano
