The composer:Elegy and March was one of my first original compositions (no quotations no folk-tunes) and it was one of my earliest attempts to experiment with form. The elegy-part is quite obvious but the march is not quite a march. If the elegy-part tells a sad story then the march should tell a happy story. My problem is that I don¬?t think life is like that. In de tweedelige compositie zijn de delen thematisch aan elkaarverwant. De Elegy is een verstild werkje met prachtige klankvelden. Alle instrumenten komen aan bod maar nooit tegelijk. Hoe anders is dat in de mars waarbij ragfijn orkestspel wordt gevraagd. De componist: Elegy and March was een van mijn eerste originele werken (geen citaten geen volksliedjes) en het was een van mijn eerste pogingen om te experimenteren met vorm. De elegie deel is vrij duidelijk maar de mars is niet helemaal een mars. Als het elegie-deel een triest verhaal vertelt dan zou de mars een gelukkig verhaal moeten vertellen. Mijn idee is dat dat in het echte leven ook niet zo is. Resultaat: de mars stort totaal in!Weer iets totaal anders van de Noorse meester!

La jalousie peut déclencher de nombreuses émotions qui vont de la déception de la peine et du regret à la colère ou à la folie. Toutes ces émotions ont trouvé leur place dans cette composition inspirée de trois formes d?art différentes : la poésie (Elegy I) la peinture (La Jalousie - Edvard Munch) ; la chanson (Je ne l?ose dire - Pierre Certon). La résonance affective et émotionnelle est forte. En un instant l?auditeur est touché par ce qu'il entend.

For Brass Band-Ian Wilson was born in Belfast in 1964 and obtained the first D.Phil in composition to be awarded by the University of Ulster . His music has been performed and broadcast on six continents. About Seascape with high cliffs he says: ?the piece was inspired by a visit I made some years ago to the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland. The cliffs are hundreds of feet above the swelling sea with the Aran islands in thedistance barely visible the day I was there. Seabirds were floating in the strong breeze below me.?

The musicians can come on stage as they join in. That is why two of the measures are notated 'repeat till ready', here you have to wait until everyone is in place! If everyone is ready from the start, the repetition can be omitted. Be sure to play with a bouncy but singing style, not with short and harsh articulations. Do the trills on the beat, but these can also be omitted if it makes it too difficult. After a short slow introduction it is the drummer who without asking the questions above sets the high pace. As soon as this rapid movement has been established ‘part 1’ takes the lead but the other parts obviously don’t want to miss a thing and follow in rapid succession. At the end of the composition the various parts ‘compete’ in order to be able to play solo for a while but soon others join in again asking ‘Excuse me may I play along?’

Scottish Dances is based on three Scottish traditionals: Cock of the North The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond and Marie's Wedding. I. Cock of the North's name is used for multiple things or events. For example for a locomotive to a famous it seems delicious liqueur and rallies to snowboard competitions. Furthermore is 'Cock O' the North ' a nickname of a famous Duke. (The 4th Duke of Gordon). In this composition Cock of the North (a Jig) is a traditional Scottish bagpipe tune regularly played on tattoos by Pipe Bands. Not infrequently the drummers sing the text. In a Scottish wedding after the official ceremonies there is often danced. This is called a ceilidh. For this we use traditional Scottish music such as 'Marie's Wedding '. from Symphony No. 1 - The Lord of the Rings. Johan de Meij?s first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The symphony consists of five separate movements, each illustrating a personage or an important episode from the book. This transcription for brass band, arranged by the composer has the following movements: I. GANDALF (The Wizard), IV. JOURNEY IN THE DARK (The Mines of Moria and The Bridge of Khazad-Dûm), V. HOBBITS. The symphony was written in the period between March 1984 and December 1987, and had its première in Brussels on 15th March 1988, performed by the The Royal Band of the Belgian Guides under the baton of Norbert Nozy. In 1989, the symphony The Lord of the Rings was awarded a first prize in the Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in Chicago, and a year later, the symphony was awarded a grant by the Dutch Composers Fund. In 2001, the orchestral version was premiered by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.

Son épouse meurt en 1954. Quatre ans plus tard il est amputé de la jambe droite. Son appétit de vivre et saflamme créatrice s?éteignent. Il meurt en 1964.Cole Porter a composé de superbes chansons et comédies musicales dont certaines sont encore très appréciées de nos jours. Il suffit d?évoquer I?ve Got You Under My Skin ou Every Time We Say Goodbye. Sa musique a été reprise par de nombreux artistes : des crooners et grandes vedettes du jazz telles que Frank Sinatra Ella Fitzgerald et Oscar Peterson aux cantatrices Renée Fleming et Kiri Te Kanawa.
