The composer writes: 'This piece was composed using as its basis the compositional technique of serialism in which a fixed series of notes are used to make the harmonic and melodic base of a piece. I looked at the twelve Munro???s on the Isle of Skye known as The Cuillin and used their height???s to get the twelve notes required in serialism. The tallest is Sg?rr Alasdair at 992 meters and Sg?rr a??? Mhadaidh is the shortest at 918 meters. I added together the number of meters to get a single number that could be related to a note in the scale. I wrote down the scale I had chosen and assigned each Cuillin a note the heights of the Cuillin gave me the order which gave me the tune Iuse. I decided not to use a conventional scale so I put on my B and F levers which gives the scale a darker colour that I feel matches the mystery of the Cuillin. Although the technique used to achieve the scale is serial the piece itself cannot be described as a serial piece and I have allowed the music to develop more freely and organically than a system would allow.'

The title refers to the poetic stanzas but also to invisible spaces to be inhabited with the mind. One day my friend Cecilia Chailly calls me and asks me if I have a harp piece for her to play. I give her Vega to try. Two days later I go to her house to listen and, with mutual enthusiasm, I give her all the pieces that we will soon be recording. Cecilia will perform them in concert on various and memorable occasions. Here, I would like to express my profound thanks for her heartfelt help in correcting this new harp edition. (L. Einaudi)

The composer writes: 'My approach to writing these works for intermediate level lever harp was to fully embrace the diatonic and/or modal properties of the lever harp and to write into the strengths of the instrument. I also wanted to create works which whilst embedded in stylistically familiar territory also open up less familiar technical and musical elements for new players. For example the ???celtic??? themed works Coire Fhionn Lochan and The Road to Kilchurn Castle are derived from very familiar elements but which challenge the players ability to deal with irregular times and juxtaposed rhythmic material and Reverie which tests the harpists ability to maintain evennesswhile controlling gradual changes of tempo and dynamic within a very familiar technical landscape. One of the other important things was to write works specifically for the lever harp (as opposed to pedal harp) especially given that so much lever harp repertoire consists of arrangements or re-arranged pedal harp music. The lever system offers many advantages over the pedal system including the opportunity to employ chromatic possibilities that would otherwise be impossible. So some of these works indulge and celebrate these idiosyncrasies. I hope you will enjoy playing them as much as I enjoyed writing them.'

Music From The Disney Motion Picture Arranged For Harp; Tangled is Disney's popular animated film from 2010, based on the German fairy tale Rapunzel. This book includes two songs from the movie, arranged for lever or pedal harp by Sylvia Woods: I See the Light and Healing Incantation. Both pieces include lyrics, fingerings, and lever or pedal changes. I See the Light is the love song between Rapunzel and Flynn, sung in the boat during the lantern ceremony. This 5-page intermediate arrangement is in the key of C with F and G lever changes throughout. The range is 31 strings, from the C 2 octaves below middle C up to the E 2 octaves and 2 strings above middle C. The one-page Healing Incantation is the song that Rapunzel sings when her hair creates the magic. It is in the key of 1 sharp, with G and C lever changes. It can be played by advanced beginners with experience in making lever changes. The range is 22 strings, from the E almost 2 octaves below middle C, up to the E 9 strings above middle C. Variations Sur Un Thème Dans Le Style Ancien by Carlos Salzedo is the third and final work of a series called “Three pieces” for solo pedal Harp. Difficult to play it is rated 8° and requires good mastering of the instrument and of its technique including the pedals. Using the full range of the instrument this work features numerous trills glissandos and accidentals among other technicalities and is divided between really fast and more quiet parts. Really delightful this melodious piece is composed of a main theme and eleven variations: Main Theme (Maestoso) is composed of chords I. A tempo Graziamente II. Tempo di Bourrée III. Scherzando IV. Arranged for Harp-Say Something is an original song by the American duo A Great Big World. The lyrics are about letting go when a relationship ends. It became an international hit when Christina Aguilera joined A Great Big World on a re-recorded version in 2013. Sylvia Woods has made a 4-page advanced beginner to intermediate arrangement playable on either lever or pedal harp. This music features a pedal point (also called a pedal note or pedal tone) which is a sustained or continually repeated note that is held constant while harmonies change in other parts. A pedal point is usually found in the bass but here it is in the middle register. Virtually every measure includes a middle Cnote on the downbeat. Sometimes it is played with the right hand and at other times with the left. But it is almost always there. This pedal point harmony is what originally drew me into this beautiful piece of music the first time I heard it on the radio. The music is in the key of C and no sharping levers are required as there are no lever changes. Fingerings lyrics and chord symbols are included. The harp range required is 24 strings from a low C up to an E. It can be played on 24-string to 26-string harps with a C as the lowest string if you play both hands an octave higher than written.

Most studies are two pages long and enable the player to work on different technical aspects: I. Allegro (3/4 tempo 120) II. Vivace (4/4 tempo 132) – It focuses finger flexibility with a set: 4-1-3-1-2-1-3-1-4 for the right hand III. Lento (3/4 tempo 48) – It focuses on arpeggios IV.
