Class
ic hymn tune, BROTHER
JAMES' AIR A memorable
earworm countermelody
unifies three stanzas of
the familiar hymn tune,
BROTHER JAMES' AIR. In
the middle minor section,
the melody moves to the
bass against thumb-damped
treble chords. Then, the
countermelody returns and
leads us to a final,
triumphant statement.
This compelling
arrangment assures us
that the Lord truly is
our Good Shepherd, making
it ideal for the Easter
season as well as general
occasions.

Octavo. Beckenhorst Press

Written for 3-4
octave handbell choir and
3 octaves of handchimes.
Level 3. This stunning
original from Matthew
Compton is replete with
emotion and descriptive
storytelling. From a
delicate, ethereal
opening, the piece moves
into a section with
flowing accompaniment
relying heavily on
straight eighths set
against triplet eighths.
A faster section ensues
featuring a soaring
melody and unexpected
harmonic twists before
returning to the feeling
of the opening. An
altered statement of the
theme makes a brief
appearance before the
piece ends as it began. A
truly beautiful and very
approachable piece from
one of today's
up-and-coming
composers!
Please
note, the recording is of
the 5 -7 octave
version.
