Britten's Jubilate is written for SATB choir and Organ accompaniment.Benjamin Britten's birthday (22nd November 1913 Lowestoft) falls on St. Cecilia's Day a happy augury for the career of one of Britain's greatestcomposers. Essentially a vocal composer Britten won international fame for his operas and song-cycles. He never abandoned the principles of tonality and was a 'modern' composer who reached a mass audience and a conservative whoseoriginality no radical would sensibly deny. He shared with his predecessors Parry Vaughan Williams and Holst an intense interest in works for amateurs and children. His brilliant gifts as a pianist and conductor coupled withhis virtuosic inventiveness also led him to compose music for great performers such as the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and the singers Galina Vishnevskaya Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Janet Baker. The greatestpersonal influence on his music was the Tenor Peter Pears for whom he composed many operatic and vocal roles. In 1948 Britten Pears and Eric Crozier founded the Aldeburgh Festival now one of the most respected established fornew English music. In 1952 he was made a Companion of Honour in 1965 received the Order of Merit and in 1976 the year of his death he became the first composer to receive a life peerage.Oxford University Press wasBritten's first publisher. In the early 1930s A Boy Was Born and the Simple Symphony brought him great critical acclaim and launched his compositional career. Oxford is delighted to present some previouslyunpublished pieces in collaboration with the Britten Estate. These include the Double Concerto for Violin and Viola premiered at Snape by the Britten-Pears Orchestra under Kent Nagano in June 1997; Two Portraits forString Orchestra premiered on BBC Radio 3 in December 1995 by the Northern Sinfonia under Martyn Brabbins; The World Of The Spirit the full version first performed in 1938 on the BBC Home Service the abridged

Vivaldi's Kyrie RV 587 (BA 8950) is scored for two choirs and two groups of stringed instruments. The date of its composition remains unclear. It is a purely a Choral work without solo passages.Today the ?Gloria? RV 589 (BA 7674) is one of Vivaldi?s best-known compositions and one of the most frequently performed sacred Vocal works from the Baroque period. Vivaldi wrote the ?Gloria? as a self-contained work in the style of a concertante mass. However it was probably also performed within church services. The scoring of the solo voices (SSA) suggests that the work was written during his period atthe Ospedale della Piet around 1716. In the twelve movements of the ?Gloria? Vivaldi displays the whole range of his mastery from festive sublime outer movements to tender transparently scored solo passages. Both works can be performed independently but can also be combined as a kind of short mass. Although the authenticity of the autograph manuscript score is beyond doubt these new editions contain some re-evaluations in phrasing and performance practice which go beyond what other editions have to offer. The Piano reductions are straightforward clearly presented and preserve the character of the works.- Attractive choral pieces which can be combined to form a short mass.- Informative foreword (Ger/Eng).

'Yankee Doodle' with variations is the most concise way to describe the piece commissioned by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra to commemorate Conneticut's participation in The United States Bicentennial. 'Yankee Doodle' a tune dating back to the Middle Ages in Holland and England (and used by the British as early as 1755 to poke fun at untrained American troops in the French and Indian war) is interwoven with other folk and national melodies to stitch a patchwork or a musical collage. It is a personal view of American history.'To explain my approach to They All Sang Yankee Doodle I must explain my own background because the piece is made up ofmusical memories imprinted from early childhood. My earliest musical memories are a juxtaposition of sounds - hymns and Bach chorales from the church next door where my mother was choir director; early twenties jazz from my oldest brother's dance band; classical piano from my middle brother and my mother's piano studio; and cowboy songs and turn-of-the-century ballads that I have always identified with my father. Concord California where I was born was once part of a land grant from the Mexican government and the Spanish-Mexican influence remained strong even as the town expanded from a sleepy settlement into an American microcosmos with a wide variety of ethnic groups. Over fifty years ago most of us who sang 'Yankee Doodle' in Concord could not trace our ancestry to the founding fathers. Those of us with Anglo-Saxon names were at the end of the Westward push our forefathers having left behind the Eastern cities a few generations before settling for a time mid-continent then restlessly pushing further West. Little is known of my paternal grandfather for instance except that he had come to California from Indiana walking across Nevada desert to become one of the first settlers in Mordoc Indian territory.Of course the native American the Indian was there to greet each new migration and it is his

St. Bernard?s name day falls on the 11th of September (a Saturday in 1797) and it is generally thought that Haydn combined doing honour to the Capuchin monk with the production of a new Mass for his patron the day thereafter.Apparently later performances in Eisenstadt added horns to double the trumpets in the tuttis and just as in the previous Mass the clarinet parts were enlarged; it is almost certain that the new clarinet parts are either by Haydn or (shall we say) ?supervised? by him. The Chester Missa Brevis was written for the choir of Chester Cathedral in 2013 and is a tentative homage to Benjamin Britten in his centenary year. All the movements are thematically related and the musical ideas culminate and are more plainly stated in the Agnus Dei. Despite being called Missa Brevis the work has a grand ‘big building’ feel to it whist also aiming to be practical enough in terms of length to serve a regular cathedral liturgy.

Mozart?s Requiem has entered the realm of myth. This is surely the best-known of all sacred choral works and is performed all over the world. Now a new version for solo voices chorus and organ allows this legendary masterpiece to be performed without orchestra and thus without strain on the budget. The choral writing has been taken unaltered from the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition while the organ part by Martin Focke adheres strictly to the original orchestral writing. The result is a version as convincing as it is self-contained.Franz Xaver Süssmayr?s additions have been used to complete Mozart?s unfinished original.Self-contained version withorgan instead of orchestraIdeal for church services and concert performancesClear and well-presented organ partThe Bärenreiter Choir & Organ Series presents great choral works in arrangements for soloists choir and organ; no orchestra is needed. The original orchestral parts have been transcribed into easy-to-play organ reductions whereby the contemporary tradition of such arrangements has been taken into consideration. In some cases the original organ versions by the composer were used. The organ parts are presented on three staves. The choir and solo parts always remain true to the original. You need only one edition for soloists singers and organist alike.

Vincent Novello was a British composer and Organist who gave the Novello publishing company its first embryonic form. Here he arranges Rule Britannia! for Voice SATB with Piano accompaniment to introduce some contrapuntal interest in the verse. When 18th century British composer Thomas Arne included his song Rule Britannia! in a masque based on the life of Alfred the Great that was presented at Cliveden the country home of Frederick Prince of Wales he could not have imagined that more than two hundred seventy years later his ditty would be known throughout the British Isles and beyond. Rule Britannia! is widely used in the Royal Navy and British Army and is featuredeach year at the Last Night of the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall as a national sing-along.At the time of writing the Dutch actually ‘ruled the waves ’ so this song was more an exhortation than a status report. The lyrics were also a statement of civil liberty. Since Cromwell’s time Britain had had a standing army which could be turned against the native population. A standing navy however existed solely to protect the nation from invaders protecting a free populace.

All I Ask Of You is the love song that triggers the Phantom of The Opera's jealous campaign of retribution in Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical - Cliff Richard and Sarah Brightman took it for a spin in 1986 and had a hit single. Big Spender became even more popular than the 1966 musical from which it came - 'Sweet Charity' - and Shirley Bassey did much to popularise it later. Written specifically for Colm Wilkinson, Bring Him Home is the emotional song from Act II of Les Misérables while I Have A Dream is a no less emotional Abba number that is included in the record-breaking stage musical Mamma Mia. Last Night Of The World is the haunting dance hall song from Miss Saigon that marks the fateful promise made by the US airman to take Kim with him when he leaves Vietnam. This volume in the Novello Choral Pops collection contains all five of these musical theatre favourites, arranged for SATB Choir with Piano accompaniment. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Piano

A tour de force of choral energy and expertise in rhythmic precision this is aerial music fleet and vibrant as voices proclaim Martin Luther's vision of universal peace above a torrent of cascading Organ scales. The brightness of the Lydian mode matches this joyful proclamation intoned chant-like in bold clear intervals recalling the sounds both of medieval music and its refraction through the ears of modern masters like Stravinsky and Tavener. Cunningly constructed too on a four-bar ostinato the music reverses its opening scale figure for a quieter section before building again to an extrovert ending that repeats the chant against new Organ figures in aclinching 'alleluia'.

Richard Allain's Night for SATB and Cello. Night Was commissioned by Commotio and recieved its premiere in Merton College Oxford in June 2007 conducted by Matthew Berry and is available on the Herald label (HAVP340). Composer's Note: Given the long phrase lengths of Night it is suggested that choirs Stagger breathing where necessary. The last page of the score requires some explanation. The singers should split into three separate groups: two equal SATB choirs and an SATB solo quartet. Each group sings their own music - each repetition being separated by a long pause - independent of the othergroups. Thus Choir I will begin and as they finish Choir II will commence etc. The music should continue for about two minutes getting gradually quieter with each repetition. Though a common pulse should be kept the groups begin each repetition as they wish: the music should overlap and blur. Against this the solo Cello plays its fragments of melody. The choirs at the conductor's discretion should end in the order they began leaving the cello to play its last notes as the echoes fade. Duration: 20 minutes

?Ubi Caritas II: Through Infinite Ages is a closely related sequel to my Ubi Caritas published in 2007. Re-imagining some of the same material such as the main theme from the first piece Ubi Caritas II is in one sense a more sunny version of its prequel. While Ubi Caritas II functions as an independent work it is also intended to be used in combination with the other piece for example as prelude/postlude ?bookends? perhaps yielding a sense of unity and conclusion to the concert or recording. In those cases I would usually recommend ending with Ubi Caritas II.? Ola GjeiloWatch here - CWU Chamber Choir: Gjeilo -Ubi Caritas II: Through Infinite Ages:

Bold arched melodiesspringing from resilient purposeful chords likewise animate the music a sonic tableau of the sites/sights and sounds of history.
