String Quartet Version - Parts)-The composer writes: 'The backdrop for this commission was to complement music by the great Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven’s scores for string quartet are cornucopias of techniques and musicality. They were certainly not meant for pure entertainment. Ending up with Beethoven’s quartet Op. 59 No. 1 as a reference for this piece I even used elements from this quartet in my own composition. Beethoven’s position as a free artist has been of great importance to all following composers. This is of equal inspiration as his music. As a free artist one has to reflect upon our own time and not be afraid of allowing reality affect our work. When I was in the middle of writingthis piece something horrible happened in my neighbourhood. A bomb exploded in Oslo and a killer shot teenagers on an island summer camp. My nation’s reputation as a peaceful country to live in was drastically and forever changed. It was hard to compose. Papers and online media were soon filled with horrible pictures from the events. The lead-coloured skies being a recurring sight. The ambiguity in the title reflects both hope and dread. Beethoven’s light shines through strong and full of life! The piece was commissioned by the Engegård Quartet in 2011 and appears the recording String Quartets vol IV: Schubert-Ratkje-Britten-Haydn. A later piece was composed for string orchestra: 'Tale of Lead and Frozen Light' (2014)'.

Fantasia In F Minor for Strings (1799) after the Organ Piece for Mechanical Organ K.608.Despite their high quality Mozart?s works for unusual instruments or instrumental combinations often receive scant attention. One of these remarkable compositions is a piece for mechanical Organ K. 608 that he wrote for ? Müller?s Art Gallery ? in March 1791. By 1799 it had already appeared in print in Vienna as a fantasy for Piano four-hands.But there were also other transcriptions including one for two Flutes and another for String Quartet.Several sources and later editions attest to the popularity of this contemporary stringarrangement of 1799. Our new volume edited by Christopher Hogwood takes the relevant sources into account. It contains a trilingual preface (Eng./Ger./Cz.) discussing the work?s history and performance practice as well as a detailed critical report.- Almost unknown music from Mozart?s final year.- Transcription of 1799 for String Quartet.- Additional Double Bass part provided to allow performances with Chamber Orchestra.- Detailed preface critical report (Eng./ Cz ./Ger.). Also includes facsimiles.- Full score & parts (BA9505) available for sale.

with Optional Rock Rhythm Section. Par WOOD MARK. This multi-level piece includes a full set of parts for grade 2 as well as a full set for grade 4 ensembles. Mix and match the parts as you need---perfect for mixed-ability ensembles! The traditional bolero is a moderately slow dance in triple meter which originated in late 18th century Spain. Since then it has spread to other countries and become transformed in the process. The Cuban bolero became a bit faster in tempo and duple in meter. In the U.S. it became a staple of competitive ballroom dancing, even faster and in 4/4 time. Maurice Ravel's Boléro for orchestra harkens back to the slower Spanish dance in three. Wood's Bolero by Mark Wood, on the other hand, focuses on the American version but maintains elements of the dance's origins and first iterations. For string orchestra with optional rock rhythm section parts. (4:30) / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Orchestre à Cordes

Students and audiences alike will enjoy this entertaining, original work, written in D Major and based on a 3/3/2 Samba feel. Rhythms are varied, but repetitive, requiring students to explore different bowing combinations, using slurs, ties, and accents. Dynamics and articulations are also varied, helping to create the lively dance-feel. This piece would also lend itself to the addition of some ad lib audience participation with maracas or similar percussion accompaniment. / Orchestre A Cordes
