Burning Love was one of the up-tempo numbers where the bass guitar player played an especially important role. Thus, this arrangement of Burning Love, written by Thijs Oud, brings a specific challenge for the musicians in the low register. The trumpets and the trombones can also play standing behind the band adding to the visual and dynamic enhancement.

Born in Jarrow, northeast England, in 1949, John Miles was something of a child prodigy, learning the piano from the age of five. In the early '60s he persuaded his father to buy him a guitar and by the end of the decade he had joined asemi-professional band, The Influence. The group soon disbanded and by 1969 Miles was recording with his own group, The John Miles Band, releasing a dozen singles in the early '70s. In 1975 Miles decided to move to London and secured a dealwith Decca Records. By October that year, a newly formed band, John Miles and Co, had released their debut single, Highfly, but their greatest hit, which stormed the British charts in March 1976, was Music.

In 1976 bestormde het nummer Music van de band John Miles and Co de hitparades. Beat It, is one of Michael Jackson’s most popular songs, awarded two Grammys for its commercial success. Seen by many as a rock song, Beat It was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time.” Since its release, the song has been covered and famously reinterpreted by artists such as Fall Out Boy, Fergie and most recently Masamicz Amano, who has made this wonderful arrangement for concert band!

Beat It, is one of Michael Jackson’s most popular songs, awarded two Grammys for its commercial success. Seen by many as a rock song, Beat It was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time.” Since its release, the song has been covered and famously reinterpreted by artists such as Fall Out Boy, Fergie and most recently Masamicz Amano, who has made this wonderful arrangement for concert band!

The sparkling music from Soweto (South Africa) has a long history. The rhythmic dances of Kwela, the 'syncopated guitars' of Mbaqanga, the saxophones and trumpets with their supple African jazz sounds as well as the infectious and sometimes gripping choir singing.

All these elements can be recognized when listening to the 'Soweto String Quartet', which in its turn inspired Peter Martin to write 'Soweto Swing'.
