Villa-Lobos' Pequena Suite is an early work written in 1913 originally composed for Cello and has been arranged for Trombone and Piano by Ralph Sauer. The Suite of six movements are titled:
1. Romancette
2. Legendaria<
3. Harmonias soltas
4. Fugato (all'antica)
5. Melodia
6. Gavotte-Scherzo

The movements alternate slow-fast-slow-fast, etc., the slow movements are serious and contemplative and the fast ones are playful and bouncy.

The complete work is about 13 minutes in length and suitable for advanced performers.

Felder weds a string quartet with pre-recorded track for a contemplative, contemporary performance piece. Netivot was commissioned by New Music USA, made possible by annual program support and/or endowment gifts from Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust, Helen F. Whitaker Fund, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Felder: The overall title refers to spiritual pathways, connections among many identifiable nodal points, or regions, each one a continuity of experiencing, not an aim in itself. The first movement works with powers of concentration and fine attention; the second movement responds to an unfolding metaphoric, imagistic landscape as a consequent of the first movement and begins to develop rudimentary song from an intonation of specific scale points and formants--musical objects as things arise and disappear; and in the last movement, the linear becomes vertical in two chorales; The third movement's title refers to pillars of cloud and of fire. Each region has its own feel, but all of the individual phrases and materials are made of the same basic stuff. (Edge of the Center, June, 2016).

Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957) composed a song in 1915 titled Österreischischer Soldatenabschied (Austrian Soldier's Song of Farewell) for the Austrian War Relief Fund. This work inspired the set of four songs titled Lieder des Abschieds (Abschiedslieder; Songs of Farewell), Op. 14, each contemplating the unwilling separation of loved ones, which was written between 1920 and 1921 for alto and piano. These melancholy works are considered among Korngold's finest songs. Songs: 1. Sterbelied (Requiem); 2. Dies eine kann mein Sehnen nimmer fassen (The one thing my desire can never comprehend); 3. Mond so gehst du wieder auf (Moon once again you rise); 4. Gefasster Abschied (Calm Farewell) - this is based on the earlier Österreischischer Soldatenabschied. This version was first performed on November 5, 1921, in Vienna, the composer on the keyboard. Korngold also conducted the premiere of his orchestral version on January 14, 1923, also in Vienna.

An optional three, full octaves of handchimes are intermingled with the bells in this original work inspired by Christ's prayer in Gethsemane. The chimes are optional, but extra effort should be made to include them, as they add so much to the contemplative nature of the work. The gamut of Christ's emotions is portrayed through quiet, building, and strong passages. Finally, in the last ten measures, one can almost hear Jesus say, Thy will be done. 81 measures.
