In Mainstream Mallets, Jason Hammond-Wood has compiled over 20 short, 2-mallet solos with optional piano accompaniment to challenge more experienced middle school students while offering high school percussionists more performance opportunities.

All selections are familiar tunes, including classical favorites such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Anitra's Dance (from Peer Gynt), and The Barber of Seville. Also included are nonclassical melodies like The Stars and Stripes Forever, The Entertainer, and On Wisconsin (the university's fight song).

All pieces are playable on xylophone, vibraphone, or marimba, and two of the solos are adapted to be performed as duets! The optional piano accompaniment may be performed with a pianist, or by using the provided audio accompaniment tracks.

John Willmarth's Rhythm Rocket is a great piece for beginning percussion performers. It comes with two versions--short and long. Both versions are accompanied by funky and fun play-along tracks that will keep even the squirreliest of children focused! In both versions the performers can customize their own instrumentation with anything that can yield two different sounds (e.g., buckets, music stands, or even stools).

The short version is geared towards elementary school students or first-time performers, and can be played using sticks or hands on drums like tubanos, djembes, or bongos. The long version requires sticks and is a tad more involved. Both versions remain attainable and fun!

This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes a play-along audio accompaniment along with individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.

Russell Wharton was inspired to compose Deus Ex Metronome by a device ubiquitous and invaluable to the journey of many musicians - the BOSS DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome. This solo incorporates an audio accompaniment created solely from samples recorded (and liberally manipulated) from the DB-90.

This intricate accompaniment lays the groundwork for a complex array of rhythms and textures from the soloist. Musical influences are derived from pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan, jazz drummer Mark Guiliana, and the indelible rapper Kendrick Lamar. In this melting pot of artistry and technique, Wharton has created a composition that is truly singular and unique.

Deus Ex Metronome comes with a full, bound score and includes the audio accompaniment tracks as well a full reference recording of the piece.

It takes two to tap off in this collection of medium-advanced duets for marching snare and tenor. These four pieces were smartly written by Brian Blume to function as audition pieces for a college-level program (or advanced high school level) or any time a snare player and tenor player want to get together to showcase their skills!

Take Two -- One phrase is followed by a second, similar phrase (a second take) through a variety of compositional devices. (1'40)

Catchphrase -- Phrases over the barline, phrases with space, and like phrases with different rhythmic values serve to challenge conventional wisdom. (1'20)

Relentless -- Mostly in 7/8 time, this one is relentless in its tempo and musical challenges. (1'15)

Solo Piano for Percussion is an inventive piece by composer, Christopher D. Walker. It features a solo percussionist using various colorful techniques on a grand piano such as playing the strings with mallets, sliding mallets along the strings, using the fingers directly on the strings, playing the instrument on the keys, and utilizing various sostenuto effects.

Abstract in nature, it paints an audible landscape to reflect the included poem by Caitlin Ireland, El Mar (The Sea). This creative piece would be a unique and refreshing selection for percussionists to showcase their versatility while providing audiences something unexpected and soothing.
