So zeigt etwa ein wieder entdeckter Kurzfilm aus dem Jahr 1913 Puccini in hauslicher Idylle - und deckt zugleich auf, dass diese Idylle nur eine gespielte war: Der Selbstmord eines Dienstmadchens hatte ihn in die schwerste private Krise seines Ehelebens gesturzt. Wie Biographie, Werkbiographie und Musikdramaturgie zusammenhangen, erschliesst dieses Buch.

Richard Erkens war freier Musikjournalist und Leitender Musikdramaturg sowie Stellvertretender Operndirektor am Theater Lubeck. Zurzeit ist er Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Musikgeschichtlichen Abteilung des Deutschen Historischen Instituts in Rom.
