Commissioned by The Houston Children's Chorus Heartsongs is an eight choral song cycle inspired by the life and words of the amazing young poet Mattie Stepanek. Simple and yet profound in their insights this work containstreasured testimonies of the human spirit and gentle admonitions for us to listen learn and bring Mattie's dreams for a better world to a glorious reality. Bob Chilcott's Dancing in Memory's Stream for SSA and Piano.This joyous and upbeat piece sets a text by Delphine Chalmers full of vivid imagery of childhood memories and with a compelling refrain: 'Though the years may make us strangers our voices set the ripples dancing in memory's stream'. Alternation between passages of 4/4 and 7/8 gives a spirited offbeat feel and the pleasingly simple melodic lines and long unison passages make the piece especially suitable for school or children's choirs.Bob Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life first as a Chorister and then a Choral Scholar at King's College Cambridge. Later he sang andcomposed music for 12 years with the King's Singers. His experiences with that group his passionate commitment to young and amateur choirs and his profound belief that music can unite people have inspired him both to compose full-time and through proactive workshopping to promote choral music worldwide.

The African drum lifts A Prayer of Desmond Tutu from a chordal evocative prayer setting and places it in history. Archbishop of South Africa Desmond Tutu was in office at the end of apartheid and the releaseof Nelson Mandela from prison. His leadership to truth and reconciliation in South Africa has been instrumental in that country’s development since 1994. He is the winner of the Nobel Prize. This poem is characteristic ofhis optimism and faith.
