Choeur Mixte / 48 pages / Partition

A setting of the well-known text from the Book of Revelation chapter 21 And I saw a new heaven reflects the vibrant and highly descriptive text with approachable dissonance and varied textures. Each part divides in two on occasions though not throughout and the closing chorale-like section (â??And God shall wipe away all tearsâ??) is beautiful in its simplicity.

Choeur Mixte A Cappella

Composer Orlando Gibbons was the leading English composer of his time the late 16th and early 17th century. This five-Voice SSATB madrigal is the best known of his many madrigals and remains compellingly beautiful. The sheet music also includes A Catch on Tobacco by theologian philosopher and composer Dr Henry Aldrich. It dates from 1685 when the composer was Dean of Christ Church Oxford and widely known among his contemporaries as a convivial soul who among his writings created a Latin epigramme listing five reasons for drinking. The performance notes stipulate that the round is to be sung by four men while smoking their pipes.

Paul Mealor's Behold A Tender Babe is a work for Unaccompanied SATB Choir commissioned by the Hauser-Oberschneider family to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Summer Fields School. The work sets extracts from Robert Southwell's 'In Freezing Winter Night' and lasts around 4 minutes. A review in the September 2016 issue of Organist's Review states that the 'music responds sensitively and dramatically to the lines of the lyric it chooses to set rising triumphantly at the words 'with joy approach' before gently falling away as it repeatedly insists 'behold a tender babe'.' No less difficult but also no less rewarding is PaulMealor’s Behold a tender babe written a year earlier. But it is carefully written so that the difficulties are manageable. The two places where sopranos have a top C are the only points where sopranos divide so only the first sopranos ascend there. The music follows the details of the words with drama at ‘do homage to thy King’ and then falling away most beautifully to ‘behold a babe’. - Julian Elloway

A Lyke-Wake Dirge - A Border Ballad Op. 110 a - a choral classic by Vagn Holmboe for SATB Choir A Cappella. 'The Lyke Wake Dirge is a moral ballad from the border telling the story of what will happen to the soul after death. If he has never given shoes and stockings to the poor then the 'whinnes' will torment him and pierce him to the bone. If he has never given food and drink to the poor then the fire of purgatory will burn him to the bare bone. However if he has done all these good works then Christ shall receive his soul.'

Sing Pop A Cappella is a collection of a cappella arrangements of fantastic pop songs old and new, by renowned teacher, singer and director Gitika Partington. Her arrangements are used by choirs across the UK, and she emphasises that being able to read music is not necessary. Rewarding and enjoyable, Book Three continues her project to bring people together through the power of song. What's great about Gitika Partington's Sing Pop A Cappella series is how she understands that to make great music or to sing a great song, it's not necessary to be able to sight-read. It may be useful, but she has learned that there are other ways to communicate music, namely through ear training, repetition and gesture. Her arrangements, five of which appear in this book, have enabled youth and community choirs to spring up across the country, making singing truly and universally accessible. Included in this book are wonderfully rich a cappella arrangements of Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers, Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair, Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up, Adele's Rolling In The Deep and a huge favourite, Sway (Quien Sera). Vocal scores for these innovative and enjoyable arrangements are included in standard notation, although Partington recommends learning by ear as something equally beneficial. To aid with this, the accompanying download card includes five tracks of audio for each song. One features a full performance demonstration while the other four each focus on either soprano, alto, tenor or bass. The easy download of these tracks makes learning efficient and fun, as you are able to listen wherever you are.The great thing about a cappella singing is that it can be done anywhere, with limited resources, with members who don't necessarily have any musical training. Partington has created a book that can be used by a cappella choirs who love pop music that sounds great and will thrill audiences. Sing Pop A Cappella is not just a songbook, though, it also includes an extensive introduction by Partington, as well as performance tips for each song and information on voice care and learning the tunes. It's a personal book for Partington, who is passionate about the power of music to bring people together, and enthusiastic about getting people who wouldn't believe they had the confidence or ability, to sing pop!Sing Pop A Cappella is a brilliant book for choirs of any type or size who would enjoy singing five incredible pop tunes without accompaniment. The fantastic sound of a group of people singing a well-known song in a completely new and interesting way is something that Gitika Partington knows well, and something that she wants to impart to groups across the country. Songs like this were made to be sung, so pick up Book Three and Sing Pop A Cappella! / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Piano

Richard Allain's A Perfect Friend for unaccompanied SATB choir. This piece is a setting of text by Robert Louis Stevenson. Duration: 3 minutes. 'Robert Louis Stevenson's poem A Perfect Friend provides the text for Richard Allain's third piece in this review a slow-paced setting of the hymn to the perfect female friend which in its big crescendos and diminuendos seems to be trying somewhat too hard to inject emotion - but in the hands of a sympathetic and skilful choir it could no doubt work its end upon our senses.' - David Lindley Organists Review December 2017
